Which seedbanks created the original strains of Northern Lights and White Widow.

With so many different seedbanks offering their version of the same strains, how do you know which one is the best one, or the original one?
How different are these other strains, ie BC Northern Lights, Nirvana Northern Lights, Seedsman Northern Lights, G13 Labs etc

Was Sensi Seeds the original Northern Lights and Dutch Passion for White Widow?

think greenhouse seeds were the original white widow, but there seems to be a lot of controversy about it. actually not even sure if they were first but they had the prize winning white widow back in the 90s, which I'm guessing they invented. Thing is a former employee of their, who now has started mr nice claims to have the original prize winner..........

My understanding is Northern Lights was originally bred in the Pacific Northwest, and is now known as NL#1. When people played with it they arrived at NL#2, #5, #9, etc. Some of these are "lost", but may be interbred by the breeders.

I wondered the same thing.

I just sprouted 3 Nirvana White Widow and 3 Nirvana Northern Lights.
So are the seeds really that different from seed bank to seed bank?

nirvana has the best NL
Actually, it's Sensi that has the best NL... and it's the closest to the orig. :)

I managed to find out some more info from the Buds book. Here's a quote

Northern Lights
The Northern Lights (NL) is one of the most potent and famous indica varieties. Even though there are a lot of copies circulating around with variations on the name, there are only 3 pure types from the original development of Northern Lights, which Sensi was lucky to acquire....

White Widow
Since it's introduction in 1995 WW has become an infamous breed in the world of weed. The variety can be found in almost every coffeeshop in Amsterdam, but while imitation may be the truest form of flattery, the genuine item bears the Greenhouse name. .....

If anyone would like me to look up any other strains just let me know. This book has the answers.

what does the book say about mango?
One moment please..... consulting 'the book'......

....

:joint:

....

MANGO
Mango's parentage is part KC33 and part Mango form a hippie fellow who grew it for 30 years, then let KC use it as a cross in 1991. This variety is a 100 percent indicate strain that grows large and produces prodigiously, bla bla bla.....

KC Brains is the seedbank. There ya' go!

white widow was originally produced from Greenhouse by Shantibaba who left Greenhouse and took all his mothers and fathers with him. also Greenhouse only has fem white widow so its obviously not the original but you can still get it at mr. nice cause thats Shantibaba's company. also The Seed Bank in amsterdam was the first to sell northern lights to the masses but then Neville partnered with ben dronkers and started sensi seeds. but as for the best northern lights some may like nirvanas better to each their own.

Nevil at The seed bank use to sell a few NL including NL#5. There use to be a quote by an old high times guy in the 80's I think named DC (He was a great reporter) who said about NL#5 ,"that if anyone can come up with something more resinious than this, I'd like to see it." They got the strain from someone in the states. I think from Boston area but don't quote me on that..
Was in the original Seed bank High Times issue in the 80's. It was a great issue by the way.

Someone has also said Dr Atomic has a good NL.

The White Widow strain has had good things said about it. The Brazile sativa contributed the pheno keeper side of the strain. For some reason the apple tasting pheno pops to mind. I remember reading something about that. I would love to try some of the brazilian genetics used to create the strain. Find a keeper pheno however I think the problem with the braz genetics is there tendency to lean too heavy on the sativa.ie 16 weeks flowering ugh.
