White bud looking things on top of cola

Hi, please see attached pics. I've got 2 or 3 colas that have shot up past the canopy and are quite close to the ligbt. Closest is 20cm away. It's 430w led thing. Has UV. Anyway these hard white bud things are growing over the top. The most exposed one is the most extreme. I'm not super concerned as it doesn't seem to be spreading, just curious. Is it a reaction to the the UV, excessive ppfd? Can I smoke it?

I'm in week 9 of flower. Pineapple Kush

Cool! Can't believe I never heard about them before. I had them before and thought the bud got bleached or something. I thought it was bad.

Hmm, theres some info on hash tips, its just a fancy name for bleached buds. Why anyone would want that is beyond me.

Edit, I suppose its the increase in trichs which are a result of the plant trying to protect itself from the intense light, but still, I think il pass.

That is light bleaching, your plant is too close to the light. Back it off a bit. That white bit will never heal. Dontfeel bad it is all growing pains.... get it growing pains? lol. Before you adjust the light, do your self a favor and take a light reading at those plant tips, for future knowledge.

bleached leaves/buds dont ooze white substance dripping down a cola like a snow cap do they? all sticky ? mine only turn white and dry out and crumble when light bleached, but hash tips can be gathered just like charas, I've done it, produced them purposely with UV. there's plenty of much better photos online, and honestly I cant tell if ops is wet or not? could be bleached, I dunno, but hash tips are more.

Hi guys,

I've never heard of hash tips, sounds awesome :) I've just had a closer look and now my fingers are sticking to the keyboard :D

Tried to get some macro shots of it, sorry it was pretty awkward to get my head up there. The second, more brownish photo is the most intense one/most exposed to light, it just looks like a shit-ton of trichomes to me.

Its just bleached. Even the hash tip pics on google look like bleaching. I read that hash tips are caused by a plant expressing its "genetic peak" and that it is good blah blah. If thats the case, why are the example buds pictured on google looking like mids with bleached out tips? It usually happens with blurples and having the light too close. I've had it from runaway strains that get tall and too close to my hps. Its not trichomes, and when you dry it and break it open you'll see this. Its just plant tip devoid of chlorophyll.

Yeah googling a bit harder I think I agree that this is probably light bleaching, i've just squeezed the last bit of space out of my tent and got the distance up to 30cm from the tallest cola. Which is only half what the lights manual recommends as a minimum. Oh well, cant do much about it now. Still plenty of green bud underneath it.

are the tips sticky ooze or dried up bleached leaves?

The harder you drive your plants, the more they want to eat. In order to eat more though they need more CO2. If you are not willing to play the CO2 game and buy more fertilizer, stay with sensible light levels and distances.
