White Bugs In My Fox Farm Soil and Some On The Leaves

hey guys really need ur help here i noticed some small bugs on my plant after pulling all off i checked the soil and saw that i was filled with these lil bugs any idea as to what it could be??i was just going to buy some neem oil and drench and spray is that a good idea? i also noticed some discoloration and some brown holes. im sorry this is the best i could do with my current cam...thanks in advance :weed:

they seem to be jumping around can someone plz tell me what they think it could be??? and how might i kill them?

looks like your girls have aphids, i would drench your plants with neem oil and get some sand and cover the top of the soil with it. good luck!!!

Neem oil is great, sprayed.misted on regularly for the first few weeks, touch wood it has always kept bugs at bay for us. However that is meant as preventative as oppose to the cure..

These pests usually come around with dampness, i.e you are not letting your soil dry out enough so it is always moist? They thrive in damp soil.

They are not difficult to kill normally but you need pesticides (bug attack?) really for the root area, choose your poison with care as the plants will absorb it from that root area but you are miles from harvest so shouldn't be an issue really.

if they can use a transplant go for it with clean soil.

thanks alot for the info i went to home depot and they only have 70% neem oil is this ok to use? and i was told i can use an insecticidal soap to get rid of them (they said dish soap should be fine)is there any truth to this?

the soap works by suffocation .


as mentioned neem is only really preventative , it can kill some pests but mainly just retards growth.

i personally use NATURALYTE which has the active ingredient SPINOSAD

it works on a multitude of pests. It is also organic and can remain active in moist mediums for up to 4 weeks. It is a bacterium alot like those specifically for GNATS but you can spray plants and use it as a drench.


$19.99 for a pint. use 2 teaspoons per 500ml water in a spray bottle , spray your plants all over and spray your medium , 3 times 3 days apart between sprays.

are you saying the aphids could be living in the soil?? i have evidence of aphids but cant see any, so im wandering if thats where they could be.

do you have a clue why i cant see the adults Serapis??? I'm so sure they are the cause because of all the evidence theyre leaving behind. maybe im looking in the wrong place, i dunno.

Bump! I have same problem... why start a new thread? I would like to hear suggestions on best over the counter pesticide for in soil little white buggers and also suggestions on homeade pesticides, let the replies flow.... please!

You said they jump? I'm gonna guess their springtails. root aphids don't jump, and they are usually red or greenish in color. Springtails live in moist enviornments so make sure you let your soil dry all the way before watering, as far as i know, they dont do much damage to plants. Either way get some neem oil on them or some azamax if you can, both will help.

also, heres some pics of springtails vs root aphids, the root aphids are red and green, the springtails are white...

Thanks for quick reply, I have been looking for neem oil... Local dispensary and wal mart dont carry it... gonna try home depot and few others during business hours tomorrow. I;ma try to get pix up in the morning (Im too drunk ATM) Local nursery does have Fox farms Dont bug me, for $13 thought about it.. but I know there is a better answer, thanks meezy and any other replies welcome, bring it on RIU

Yeah lowes and home depot will carry neem, usually lol. AS for the FF don't bug me, that stuff works pretty well so give it a shot.
Also, I added pics of the "suspected pests" for ya.

It'd be nice to confirm the pests, as I have not even come to a final conclusion, this thread sounded most relevant...I will visit Lowes first thing in the morning, if neem oil dont work I will try the FF spray as I assume neem will be cheaper so Im gonna go with that first. BTW I don't see any added pics meezy... More replies welcome, thanks RIU

Those look like thrips. Those are not aphids, mites, whiteflies or springtails. Juvenile thrips do not have wings, so they jump around everywhere. They are very easy to kill. I knocked down an infestation with one application of Spinosad.
