i dug a hole 3 feet deep and about 20 x 20. and fille dit with bails last winter took them in on a sled in the snow. the ground is clay and it was easy to dig no rocks at all. but the roots would never go threw it

Throw it on now. The more support the better imo. I used texas tomatoe cages first, now they are pushing through my second trellis set up.

straw not hay. big difference. hay has more nitrogen and will get hot when you get it wet and burn the plants. sometimes they even combust. no joke. straw gets hot but not even close to hay. and it stops after 2 weeks.. i was going to make a mound and put a 55 gallon drum on it with a hose from the bottom with a soaker hose and have a pump riun every day for 15 minutes. and fill up the barrel but i wasnt sure how much water there holding and i dont want root. they should compost buy spring and ill just dig it up and re do it. i might dig deeper and put some alapha. but why fix if its not broke.

straw can be wheat oats and somthing else. its just the stem of the plant. no seeds or weeds. and it gold colored most of the time. you can use hay but your going to have to let it sit for a month or more before you can us it. sometime you can get stuff that got wet off the farmer that molds they cant sell that for feed. so you can get it cheap. i got mine for a buck a piece cause he loaded my truck, i got the cow poop for free from him to.

cov er the top of the soil with something grass clipping carpet towel old paper. and shade the side of your tote with carde board or a towel anything. to keep them cool.
