the problem is any apologies come in the form of "love-ins" as you said, which
is just bullshit-on-wheels. it makes racists angry and grit their teeth, makes
progressives roll their eyes....i don't know who really benefits from it.

i think rather than focusing on a never ending campaign of damage-control and
'love your brother' propaganda (even though well-meaning) the problem should
be addressed in way to diffuse future situations.

for one, as you said, those cops should have gotten off the porch, in their car,
and fucked off. i don't care that they have feelings or that the man was
disrespectful. if he was in his own house and posed a threat to nobody then
thats that. it amazes me how people so quickly side with the police in whatever

And Just for the record I also am of the belief that the USA owes no apology for deeds our great great great ancestors did to other races. If anything the native Americans were really screwed over, we didn't bother trying to enslave them, we just slaughtered them until 95% were dead they call that genocide, we reduced them from a population of 12 million to 270,000. Thats quite a few more than Hitler. Of course the American school system doesn't touch that subject, and no one went to any special trials or is demonized in any way, but there it is none the less.

The cop did what you say he should have done.

Gates then came OUTSIDE his home, and created this situation himself.

When the officer did what you expected him to do, how is he at fault for Gates then following him OUTSIDE and creating a disturbance?

I believe the president got himself involved with his answer to a question that he should not have commented on, which created this huge mess.

I completely agree about the Native American issue.

We broke treaties, but so did they.
Some that tried to live in peace with Natives were outright slaughtered.

There were many atrocities committed by both sides, but genocide is unacceptable. It's good that we don't do that stuff anymore.

If a cop is, for instance, conducting an illegal search and seizure, I will damned sure be that guy calling attention to it. It is a very important, and non-arrestable right. Doesn't matter if the professor is correct in his assertion, as an American, it is his right to express it on his property.

The cop acted completely appropriately until the abuse of power arrest. Cops are given the tools to effect arrests of criminals for a safer society. Being paranoid... about 9/11, or racism, or anything else... is not a crime. Insulting an officers integrity, is not a crime. You are allowed to be disorderly on your property, barring any noise ordinances... which themselves are rules, not laws.

I can run around my yard in my babies onesy screaming about the illuminati if I want to.
