Why am I considered mean? I'm just blunt.

Why do people think I am mean because I speak my mind?

I don't think there is anything wrong with being a blunt person,
because obviously I am. :hump:

If you asked me if I liked your hair, and I didn't,
I would say "No, I don't like it. Its kinda ugly actually".

Why do I have to be the bad guy for being my honest self?

Theres no problem with being blunt but the part in bold is a little unnecessary and kind of a shot at that person don't you think?

Why not instead of telling them its ugly....since you know what is not ugly make a suggestion for a better hair style.....

It is possible to be blunt and not hurtful at the same time....

It's called being respectful to others, If you have something to say that may offend others keep it to yourself, unless of course you wanna be known as an asshole.

I guess because I can't really help it.

I don't like hurting feelings or anything like that, but it
just slips out.

Its just, when I was younger, I never used to say how I felt,
and for that people would walk all over me. Now that I've gotten
older, I've gotten the courage to speak my mind freely and don't

think too much about feelings.

I guess I just don't like to sugarcoat things, although making suggestions
isn't sugarcoating, I guess I will try doing that.

I'm with Tryingto on this.^^^

Being blunt and speaking your mind is different than being hurtfull. I was told as a kid that "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

You sound exactly like my girlfriend and I still love her untill the end. So nothing but love for you either.:peace:

I'm exactly the same as you...and some people are just overly sensitive about certain subjects and start crying.
I'm an honest person, and i'll be the first person to call you out on something..whether it be, someone trying to rip someone off,
or just being a little bitch. If it annoys me, i'll tell you. Get over it people.

If you don't want a truthful answer, don't ask a question.

And no, you're not mean. Sounds to me like you're just a strong person. Don't change.

I guess. Gramma always says if you don't have anything nice
to say don't say it at all. :-)

True. We're not all here to make others happy, but I guess my mindset
is just like what you described.

Why ask for an honest opinion expecting it not to be totally honest
and sugarcoated?

I have to admit, when my boyfriend (now ex) said he didn't like my cheek
piercings, I wasn't mad at him. Because I tell him when I don't like his
hair, or his outfits, or anything else you could ask an opinion on.

It doesn't have to be sugarcoated for it to not be hurtful.

You can be honest and still nice at the same time, its all about how you word your responses.

"I don't like your hair its ugly" vs "honestly I liked your hair better before" or "If you did.....this....it would look a little better"

You don't have to be an asshole to get your point across....

Just because something is annoying to you unless its your business its my opinion to keep your mouth shut......who cares if someone says something that you don't like.....if it doesn't effect you what is the point of calling someone out?

So you can feel better about yourself?

This just screams insecurities......

True. True.

I remember a friend of my sisters came over one nite. My mom calls
me in her room to tell me something, I come back and this guy
is on MY PERSONAL laptop. I had to be straight up with this dude
and tell him to get off and that he didn't ask my permission to be on
my laptop. (especially when the family computer that guests can use
is sitting 8 inches from me)

He was like "damn, like that". I was like ".....uh...yeah, its my computer,
go use the other one"

He then commenced to tell my sister after I walked out that
"She's mean".

wth. I was just irritated because I didn't even know this guy or his
name, and he gets on my laptop after I'm gone for two minutes?

Plus, he didn't even ask. Like dude, if someone started using your
stuff without permission and you didn't even know that person, you'd
be irritated too.

yuo spend an hour dressin up and getting made up for a date, you walk outside and some guy/girl walks up and sais "hey, you going for a date, turn around baby, you look uuuuuuuuugly"

whether it's true or not, as said, it's called compassion, respect, blah blah. sometimes (you said that word not me!) you gotta be blunt with people, and i'm fully behind you on that, but you've got to be a bit conserative with it i guess. else yeah, whether that's who you are or not, you'll lose friends and make enemies.

Ok. I think I got it.

Be myself.
Be blunt, but respectful.
Be blunt, but not rude.
Be tactful.
