Drug tests are 85 to 100 a piece
Walgreens sells same test for 20 bucks
Test kits cost less than 3 bucks a piece to manufacture.
If Medicare offers same test for 30 bucks.
Labs either accept lower profit or find another way to try and make obscene profit

We had Medicare before we had the ACA. The ACA did a better job of keeping prices down without hurting quality of service. I'm not aware of Medicare doing much to control costs. The one area that I do know of where they control costs is doctor visits for checkups and problems that don't require immediate care. At the current cost structure for providers, Primary Care Practitioners have to keep to a very tight schedule or they lose money. This puts the time of the visit at a higher priority than serving the patient. With predictably bad results.

Completely agree with the idea of public option. Completely in line with the idea of people choosing it or something else. Don't think that alone will keep prices down. Thus far, insurance companies have been awful at keeping prices down. When they do, service suffers. Also, why cut costs when their own 40% vig just goes up when costs go up.

Long term, I think we will have to nationalize the health care industry. I think the ACA is the bridge to that, not Medicare, which is more of a government health care payment plan rather than healthcare management plan.
