Why are seed companys so stingy with seed quantity?

Last season I played Johnny Apple Seed in my garden. I tossed a ton of seed from a previous grow into my garden in the spring and let nature take its course. I pulled most of the male plants. By the fall my plants were LOADED with seeds. So now with my question. Why do breeders only give you a few seeds with your order? I get the idea you are buying genetics not seeds per se. With how well plants produce seed, its what they were programmed to do, I feel like they should give you more for your money. Could a breeder provide some insight as to why you get only 3 seeds for like 40 bucks? There will be people who say, buy fem and clone them...I get that too. Perfectly reasonable but.. Seriously.. Why so stingy???

Same reason the drug companies charge so much..........R&D costs money.

Anybody can chuck pollen and make some seed, the people worth buying from work their lines. They hold onto genetics for years and years, and they have skill that comes from experience. They can just as easily experience crop failure, at which point a thin margin might mean finding a new line of work.

Humboldt CSI can easily triple your bean order in freebies, while Professor P is going to give you exactly what's stated, with a promo pack thrown in maybe once or twice a year. Whether it's worth it or not is entirely up to the customer, and there is no shortage of breeders nor seedbanks. It's not like we are all forced to buy from the same guy. The banks and breeders set their price, and if it's worth their price to us, we pay.

There's plenty of overpriced garbage out there, but there's also folks like Bohdi and CSI who offer absolute fire for cheap and give freebies out like candy on Christmas.

I’d love seeds to be cheaper. But the facts are LEGIT breeding is fkn complicated ,and slow and expensive and takes space, time, equipment,etc etc etc and failure is usually always only just one wrong move away

$5-15 for a seed that will produce 3+ ounces of high quality bud seems a worthy investment. I know what you mean about price for a product that theoretically should be in almost limitless supply, but I’m also happy to spend with known breeders who are going to help me get the most from my effort.

As much as I love to complain, seeds are relatively cheap compared to finding and buying decent weed, especially in places where it’s not legal to do so. Some of us may have spent a couple thousand on beans, and still find it relatively “cheap” over the course of time, considering past money spent/wasted. For a decade, an 1/8 of decent weed here cost $50 - that’s a seed pack, and all the opportunities within.

There’s certainly overpriced beans out there. Basically anytime it’s a straight up pollen chuck the price should reflect that. Unfortunately I see A LOT of breeders i’ve never heard of slinging the same cookies crosses over and over. Seriously how many ways can we mix gg4, gelato, runtz, and gary payton?
