Why do my seedlings keep dying!!!

i had one that dryed out 1 that didnt grow 1 that grew but then got chopped in half and my most recent 1 sprouted yesterday i go to check on it this morning and the seed casing came off so its a stem about an inch long WTF why do my plants keep getting "topped" and when they are "topped" the tops are left in the pot as if they were cut...will my plant that is a stem will it grow? if not ill be pissed

That sounds like cutworms to me.

My fix for that is to take a drinking straw, cut it slightly shorter than your plants stalk, split the straw up one side and place it around the stalk of your seedling.

Mr. cutworm will not be able to chew your plants down again.

Hmmmm.. if it has any leaf material left whatsoever, than it may have a chance.

its about a 1.5-2inch root "im guessing" and a 1 inch stem there was a little bead of water on the top so im guessing its vascular system still works the stem is green

btw this is like my 4th or 5th seedling they have done this to....today i will stop being cheap and go out and buy good soil free of these devils

you absolutely need sterile soil for seedlings. You start from a solid foundation.

the soil where i live is high quality and they definitely sprouted...i really do not think its absolutely necessary to have sterile soil because Im almost sure that the kushes hash-plants and ditch weed that grow in the wild do not have a sterile environment but im not saying you are not telling the truth or am i attacking you you have ur views and i have mine
