Have you seen a well grown plant under an OLD mars II?

Where is the 1k argument.

I also have a kick in the box and get a new one 3 yr warranty... So.. I dont get it.

Yea dude there are way too many "mars grow decent weed why would you pay the money, aka Mars vrs everything else" threads. Some people choose to pay for quality as opposed to getting a cheap LED set up (not using cheap in a negative connotation just saying they are less expensive). We know mars can grow weed, we understand that, let's not beat a dead horse and start yet ANOTHER thread on the subject.

The reason why is the newer LEDs are better, those MARS leds are crap. They break like mad and they are less efficient than HID lighting, just a waste of money if you ask me.

Why buy a GTX 980 when it's basically just a suped up 970? Why can Martin Logan charge $80k for their top pair of speakers?

Your question is answered in everyday life. On things that people care about, they're willing to pay double for 10% better.

This post is dangerously misinformed. If the other tech out there was only 10% better, this wouldn't even be a discussion. I get where you're coming from, but MARS panels aren't even as efficient as an HPS bulb, flat out. Mono panels are junk. Sure, they have a nicely tuned spectrum that grows nice flowers, but that's were it ends.

Their efficiency blows, they use crap parts and drivers, they don't draw nearly what they claim to, the PPFD is severely lacking outside the initial 2x2... Unless you have something more than "Grows my weed just fine!" or "It's cheaper!" as a selling point, you're going to get laughed off these forums.

The numbers are all over these forums, especially in the DIY threads.

Lmao 10% better. I can break 20 husky ratchets before breaking a snap-on rachet.

I can drill into an iron block without breaking shit while doing it right the first time and it WILL NOT happen with tools 50% cheaper.

I can use my hortilux bulbs for 12-16 months with ZERO issues! my yield lab bulbs seem get about 50% the life of the hortilux and they also do not strike on the first ignition after a few months.

All the examples you posted were irrelevant. A 970 is only 150 cheaper then a 980 and we all know nvidia up marks the shit out of the latest cards. Now a 950 is half the price of a 970.a gtx250 about half the price of a 980 and you know damn well the 980 is more then 10% better regardless of nvidia's retarded prices


In 2016, the quality control is way more fucked up then 2006. Thanks china

it would be about 1000000000000x more helpful if you pulled up the link where the specs for the MARS unit is compared with higher end units. That way we could get a better idea of just exactly what the differences in performance are.

This is something that's been hashed ad infinitum on this forum. Find the Mars data sheet, if they post it. Any legit company would.Use the search button. Do you want me to grow it for you too?

Man not much left of that horse to beat by now. Mars work? Yes but not nearly as well as just about any lighting commonly used. I pulled 2 oz per plant using about 500w of t5, its all about true watts and efficiency of the watts being used. Cheap leds work fine for vegging and growing house plants and even herbs and peppers, they do ok of flowering cannabis. COB leds are the current best leds out there and they perform very well. I use and old 150w 90 true watt Blackstar ufo led in my veg tent and it works great for that small space for growing smaller plants.

I compare it to people using run of the mill hids vs running gavitas or the lecs. If you have the money, go for it. I am waiting on a Mars 2 400. Figured I'd give leds a try but I'm also not going to go out and buy the gavita of leds either.

For twice what you spend on a Mars you can get a halfway decent panel. Check out A51 or even some of the sellers on here. You're going to get what you pay for. If you have average results, don't blame LED tech. Blame your refusal to buy mid-level or above technology. Don't be one of those people who talks bad about LED when the only LED they've ever used is a Mars or comparable unit.

If you're going to try those Mars LED's for flowering, just use hps, much better and even if you matched them watt-for-watt with hps you'd yield less, you'd probably yield more using warm T5's or CFL's. Anyone who claims that the Mars panels can hold their own in flowering has either never grown with anything else or is not being honest with themselves.

I did a couple of test runs and then put them up against CMH about 1.5 years ago. Same environment, clones from the same plants that were flowered under Mars, same medium, same environment/room/feed schedule. The CMH plants produced 3x the weight of those Mars 3w reflector panels. So, if you want to waste your money or 3-4 months producing 1/3rd of what you could have, go for it. Maybe read through this thread first, could save you a lot of time and money.
