why do people put an "r" in "trichomes?

I even will talk to people on occaison who will still call them trichromes even after i emphasize that there is no r when pronouning the word trichome. But the thing is is that alot of people call them trichromes. What the fuck makes all these people want to fit the r in there? Where does it come from?

i just realized i was doing this about 2 weeks ago. after all these years. it's easier to pronounce? i have no idea but i was guilty. i still slip once in a while.
