Political crusades for raising the minimum wage are back again. Advocates of minimum wage laws often give themselves credit for being more "compassionate" towards "the poor." But they seldom bother to check what are the actual consequences of such laws.
One of the simplest and most fundamental economic principles is that people tend to buy more when the price is lower and less when the price is higher. Yet advocates of minimum wage laws seem to think that the government can raise the price of labor without reducing the amount of labor that will be hired.

When you turn from economic principles to hard facts, the case against minimum wage laws is even stronger.
Countries with minimum wage laws almost invariably have higher rates of unemployment than countries without minimum wage laws.

Switzerland is one of the few modern nations without a minimum wage law. In 2003, "The Economist" magazine reported: "Switzerland's unemployment neared a five-year high of 3.9 percent in February." I want the min wage to be $10 million per hour, then we only have to work 1 hour and can retire and live the good life.

Don't you think that is what would happen? Plus unemployment would go to 0% because with all that spending we would have to hire alot of people seeing as each day will require between 8-16 new employees to be replaced for each one you have now. Retired people aren't in the work force so they aren't counted, and with everyone retired the golden life will be awesome. And of course Obama would write a check to the bank for all the money we owe because government tax income would skyrocket and we would be RICH with awesome dollars which are worth way more than diamonds, gold or anything.

I say we all strike until we are all making $10 million per hour, I'm worth it and my burger flipping skills are no joke, I can make like 4 patties per hour of juicy deliciousness and rarely drop any on the floor.

So if minimum wage rises, business owners will hire less people to account for the increases in their employees salary? Walmart, Exxon, McDonalds, etc., is that the idea? Wouldn't that lead to a decrease in production for said businesses, which would then lead to a decrease in profits?
