Why Do Some Seeds Not Come Up!

Overwatering bad lol but remember Cajun before plants have roots they get all of the water/moisture they need from their foliage so humidity is more important than very wet soil during the beginning of your plant's life. Good Luck.
This is true for clones.
For seedlings, the plants won't grow much foliage until they have sufficient roots in place, and have plenty of ways to recieve moisture.
So when growing from seed, this isn't accurate.

Fucking around with paper towel or keeping seed in a cup of water till the sprout is utter madness. Stop being so afraid of losing a plant and apply tried and true methods of gardening. Seed straight into whatever medium you're using and keep it damp (not sopping). They'll sprout in 3-10 days.
There's a lot of shit that will work....just cause it works doesn't mean it's a good idea.

If its not broke why fix it? Do what you do and if someone is looking for something better why knock it? Is'nt that what a forum is, a melting pot of idea's. Chill Out! :weed:

Here's the latest vid of my babies.....

I'm cool as a cucumber homie. My opinion is that it is 'broken.'
What is the purpose of germinating seeds in a paper towel? So you can watch them grow with child-like amazement... No?
So you can see which seeds are duds off the bat? Probably the bet answer I've heard but still not worth the risk to me.
If you stick around here long enough, you'll see thread after thread of people going "why didn't my seeds germinate?" or
"avoid X seed company, their seeds don't germinate." In fact, I've seen more problems with germinating on this forum than
any other. I think it's because of the 'paper towel' and the 'soak in a glass of water' methods, both of which require you to handle
the seeds after it's popped.

Soaking old seeds can be beneficial as they tend to become dessicated with age, but if you buy seeds from a breeder they should be plenty viable on their own. Any method of germinating other than planting directly in the medium increases risk of damage to delicate root hairs and should be avoided.

Ya that's true but o planted 50 mangos from a paper towe
Towe
Last time and had all of them come up. I tried planting time warps into soil last week and only 8 made it out of 16. Granted I'm getting used to the right amount of water to give it. But I lost a bunch and that's my bottom line. And the ones I sprouted from paper towels are just fine. Do what works and what your comfortable with. It will grow and you will like it. No ones holding a gun to your telling you otherwise and it works juuust fine.
I will be trying to perfect planting them directly because I like the thought of not having to transplant. But not if I keep losing them like I did.

take one of those out of the pot...1 plant per pot or else the roots will tangle and start to feed off of each other and one will die or theyll both come out scraggaly and shwag. just saying from past expirences

I think problems arise with planting directly in the medium because people bury the seed too deep. They only need to be 1/4 inch deep, which is basically barely covered with medium.

To each their own, but I never lose a viable seed this way, and the seed sprouts faster because the taproot starts right into the medium.

Ya tried this exactly making sure not to overbury it. I thought I had none because it took 4 days for any sign of life. Than sure enough. the 5th day more kept popping out. I took the pots with the "dead" seeds in them and left them in my closet. I was trying to grab one to replant another start and I noticed 2 more popped out 8 frickin days later. Im not sure its faster. one of the reasons Paper towel iis faster is because I know exactly how much water to spray to keep it humid but not rotting.

Their are big advantages to starting them in soil. So I will be practicing a few more rounds so I can make judge for myself which method I like more. Heres some timewarp pics from last week. their are more that are recent but its been a few days since I took a pic and their doing much better:

@big bud. Lookin good man. good your starts are doin good

Tangled roots? Feeding of each other? I have been doing this for awhile because I'm using bagseed. For example check out my thread Mini-Scrog-Log-II and you'll see I started out with 4 plants under the screen and was worried about over crowding but I was also worried about the sex. If you follow the vid'z your see I had a male pop up and had to cut his azz out. I was concerned about the dead roots but the plant that was in the pot with the male is thriving and has actually covered half the screen. In addition the other ones which turned out to be females are doing fine also. I've been doing this for awhile and have never heard of roots feeding or tangling. I'm not worried about the tangling, thats why I used grow bags bec they prevent tangling and air prune over grown roots. I'll keep what you've said in mind but for my last two grows I have had two in a pot and it's paid off so far. Especially when one turns out male and now that I'm scrogging I can get much more out of small plants! I'll keep you posted if I see any issue though. Thanks for the input. :bigjoint:
Just cause you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it's not true. If you let the plants get big enough, yeah, they'll strangle each other. The roots will get so thick that they'll actually start composting in the pot. When you stick you hand into the roots to transplant them, you can feel the heat. Decades of trial and error from REAL gardeners that have been growing, more than just cannabis btw, can't be wrong. Air post aren't the one-size-fits-all answer either. If you leave a plant in an airpot long enough, they'll start to spin-out too.

I'm not doubting your abilities at growing. I'm willing to bow down and call you the king. That being said, on this thread, you start slamming that other guy, he replies fairly mellowly, you escalate, it really just detracts from the entire idea of the forums, which is exchanging INFORMATION & IDEAS, not cheap, lame, hateful barbs. You hurt the cause, which is growing a peaceful herb. Is it really necessary to call anyone names, let alone mob-mentality slams like faggot? Are you familiar with the federal laws and penalties for hate crimes? The reason they were put in place is because of phrases like the one you chose to make and the negative actions they often spur on.

I come on these forums because I'm actually interested in LEARNING and HELPING others. I'm so tired of people responding with such bullshit unkindness. It's counter-productive. People like Uncle Ben, tried and true growers who have endless amounts of knowledge to share, end up leaving because it's like fucking Romper Room in here.

I'll leave you with 3 parting thoughts, read them, smoke up and think outside your box, ponder them for a while:

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Small minds discuss people, average minds discuss events, great minds discuss ideas.

* * *
Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.
