Why does my carbon filter automatically turn on and off?

This is kind of strange but I have a fan connected to my carbon filter I just hooked up and for a day I had it hooked in a regular outlet and it ran fine 24/hrs a day. Now I put it in my lighting controller with a new 14gauge extension cord and it turns off/on every 15min or so without any timer and the fan is also much stronger now. I don’t mind this, just curious why it does this? Because the lights connected don’t turn on and off it’s just the fan.

Honestly, without knowing all your equipment, that could be a malfunction. Make sure you're not exceeding what the light controller can handle. If you're trying to run the filter 24/7 run a power strip in there. If you're controlling temps it might be time to look into a temp controller.

The controller handles 4000w and all I have plugged in is a 1000w mh light and the carbon filter fan.

I don’t have pics as I’m not near the grow right now but it’s a Helious 11 lighting controller. And I don’t think it would be on a pump timer mode, the only control is low, medium, and high for the fan. I’m doing an all soil grow. I have no timers connected.

Thats a 240v controller, shouldn't be running the fan off that. Probably feeding the fan too much voltage and it kicks off when the overheat sensor cuts it off and comes back on when it cools down.

At least you didn't fry the fan lol. Don't plug anything into that controller unless it's rated for 240v.
