Why does my ppm go up over time?

I would think my ppm would go down as the plants feed???

Is it particles in the air? Is it the rockwool?

I have a 5 site aero tub. The tub drains into the res. Pics are in my signature.

Because your nutrient solution is too hot. If you had the right ratio/strength nutrient solution you would see the numbers stay the same or go down. Number going up means the plants are drinking more water than Nutes.

Aha. Thanks a million. I am dealing with heat stress waiting for an ac to come in.

Is there anything I can do to help them in the mean time?

Hi Mike,

I believe kmog was referring to the strength of the nutrient solution, not the temperature. 'Too hot' is just the terminology for too strong mineral salt (nutrient) concentration. Try dropping your EC to 1.2 (or a bit less than wherever you are right now). You are aiming for equilibrium. If your PPM goes up, it tells you the plant is drinking more water than it is using nutrients from your solution. If PPM goes down, its using more nutrients than water.

This is not to say that you're res temps are not too hot - I like to keep my res at 19-21c.

All the best with your grow, let us know how you get on!

Yes I understand. I am eagerly awaiting an indoor air conditioning unit. In the meantime I have switched from 24. To 18 hours light. Off time during the highest outdoor temps.

I suppose when I get the ac going I'm going to redo the resevoir because it may be too strong right now.

As far as the res goes, if I keep my tent at 65 - 70 do you think I'll be okay without a chiller?

Did you soak everything 24 hours until the pH was steady around 5.5 pH. Plus, water alkalize over time becoming less acidic this rising the pH.

It's the heat dude. The ph isn't an issue. Yes I did soak the rockwool prior to use. I am having heat issues and I'm waiting for a portable ac to arrive in the mail.
