Why don't gays/lesbians deserve to have the right to be married?

Someone made a statement in the "should guns be banned" thread

stating they don't believe gays/lesbians should have the right
to be married.


Lets get the discussion started and state your opinions
on the matter...

My opinion....

Lesbians/gays should have EQUAL rights under the law.
just for those who don't know, gay marriage was legal

in CA for a while, and then it was BANNED because of
the surpreme court decision resulting from the votes on
Prop 8.

I don't understand what bothers the people of America so
much about people with different sexual orientations

getting married. It will not infringe upon your rights as a citizen
and neither will it bring troubles to your personal life. So

why worry about what other people do in their lives?

Gays/lesbians are doing nothing wrong by wanting equal
rights. And I don't feel America's religious views and

beliefs on marriage should be forced upon the gay/lesbian
community under the law. That is why we have "Freedom of
Religion". That means that you can decide to believe, or not

to believe in a religion and no one, including the gov't
can do anything about it. But it seems as though that
freedom isn't really a freedom because the religious community

is forcing their views upon the gay/lesbian community by
banning them from getting married. How would you like
it if you were given a right to be married and it was

taken away in a few short months?

They can be better role model's than some straight parents I know. :shock:

denying a minority the freedom of the majority is about the most unamerican idea i can think of...in fact its...naaaaaa i don't want to godwin the topic....let someone else do it :p

Haven't you heard of the studies that show having gay/lesbian
parents doesn't determine the sexual orientation of a child?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying 2 women or 2 men
can't do just as good a job raising children and 1 man and 1 woman?

And it is ok for anyone to be lesbian/gay.
Its not something they control. Just like anyone can't control
what color their skin is when they're born, or their eye color.

This is one of those subjects that I don't give a damn about either way. It has no effect on me if gays/lesbians get married.

Exactly!!!!

This is what people don't understand.

In no way shape or form will 2 men or 2 women getting
married hurt anyone.

So why bother them?

Even my 8 yr. old brother-in-law said they should have
the right to be married because its only fair.

I live in MA. California's warmer. ;)
I can't imagine why a state as broke as CA would deny such a huge revenue generator as gay marriage. I guess y'all did elect The Terminator as your governor ...so ...never mind. :lol:

No, I havent heard of that studies cas it dont mean jack shit-when kid sees 24/7 for 18 years how the two daddy kiss and to other nasty stuff-that kid would be affected by that, Yes that dont mean that they will go and be lesbos or gays, but it will affect them in deep mental level.Its too risky, and those studies were done by gays or lesbos anyways.

It doesnt effect me nether. But i still think that gay and lesbian people should be able to have the same marriage benifets as any straight couple.

I'm actually witnessing the opposite of what you are mentioning, firsthand - my sister is gay and her and her wife are currently raising my niece. She is a beautiful, smart little girl and they are 2 of the best parents I have ever known. :peace:

Did the state invent marriage or religion? Doesn't the bible say "the 2 were joined and became one", and the law followed? And how can the 2 become one, if they have no hope of conceiving natural children? It's ridiculous to call gay union marriage.

Anyhow gays and lesbians want to enter into "Holy Matrimony" as if to try to prove they are normal (due to some insecurity they have) and end up pissing off the people they try to force to accept their lifestyle. Marriage has always been between a man and a woman, but now we should all accept that ,marriage isn't what we thought it was, and is can just as easily be between a man and a man, a woman and a woman, a man and a child, and man and a dog? Why can't 2 animals get married? There's something to be said about tradition, and the gay lifestyle is not healthy, or normal. Am I entitled to my believes without being called names? Am I accepted? probably not

Gays should and do have the freedom to do whatever they want, but why do they find it necessary to force everyone else to accept there dangerous lifestyle? I don't find the need to seek acceptance for my marijuana use, or the fact that I like submissive women who give good head. Should I feel insecure and belly ache, and lobby congress in order for my dangerous lifestyle choices to be accepted?

I don't see what's so special about marriage anyhow. Live your life to the best of your ability, and try to be happy gay or not. If lawful union is something you think is necessary in your life, strive for it, but don't try to call it what it isn't, or force others to accept your lifestyle.

so i take it that you support the idea of denying atheists the right to marry as well?

regardless, the right to marriage is a legal issue and not a religious issue. who 'invented' it is irrelevant. either way, i find it hard to believe that religion was the driving force behind humans' tendency to bond in pairs and form family units.

Care to explain HOW it will ruin them?

Just because they see daddy and daddy kissing, or mommy and
mommy kissing doesn't mean they will naturally be attracted
to the same sex.

How do you explain straight married couples having gay children?
They weren't taught to be gay or lesbian, its just the way
they are.

And I don't ever remember hearing that those studies were
conducted by ONLY gays/lesbians...

It will not effect them on a deep mental level. Actually, it will
just open their eyes to the REAL world. So when they see
gay/lesbian couples, they know everyone isn't exactly the same
in what they prefer and its ok to be who you really are.
