Why is hash or hashish fading so fast?

Hash (hashish) is fading in popularity for several reasons—some cultural, some legal, and others economic or even psychological. Let’s dive into this in a fun, engaging, and interactive way. I’ll give you strong points, real-world examples, and comparisons that make this all hit just right.

TOPIC: Why is hash fading so quickly?

Let’s break it down with some points and real-world flavor.

1. THC Wars: Hash Just Can’t Compete Anymore
Hash used to be strong—now it's mid.
Back in the day, hash was the go-to for potency. But modern cannabis concentrates like shatter, wax, rosin, live resin are often 70-90% THC, while traditional hash hovers around 20-40%.

Example:
Imagine offering someone a Nokia phone in 2025—it still works, but we’ve got smartphones now. Same vibe.

2. Solventless vs Solvent-Based: Tech Changed the Game
New tech means cleaner, stronger highs.
People are more into solvent-based extracts (like BHO) and rosin pressing. It’s science-meets-stoner, and hash just doesn’t offer that same refined edge.

Bubble hash (water + ice) was once high tech. Now it’s more “artisan” than “elite.”
3. Hard to Make = Expensive
Hash is time-consuming to produce and not very scalable.
It requires manual labor, sieving, or ice-water extraction. This adds cost with less profit, especially compared to big-batch concentrates.

“Why spend more for less THC and harder transport?”
4. Illegal Baggage & Border Trouble
Hash is often associated with smuggling and international trafficking.
It’s often produced in Afghanistan, Morocco, Lebanon, etc., and transported illegally, especially in Europe. Many countries target it harder than locally-grown weed.

Meanwhile, weed legalization is booming globally, but mostly for flower and oil—not imported hash.
♂️ 5. Cultural Shifts & New Weed Aesthetics
“Cannasseurs” want craft flower, terpenes, and entourage effects now.
Hash is more “old school,” often lacking that fruity or gassy terp profile people obsess over.

Weed is becoming more of a lifestyle brand—hash doesn’t have the same Instagram appeal.
6. Modern Marketing Doesn’t Favor It
Hash isn’t sexy anymore.
No flashy packaging. No innovative drops. Harder to brand. In the age of weed influencers and cannabis TikTok, hash feels like vinyl in a Spotify world—cool, but niche.

It's simple yank weed is trendy and that's what the kids want they don't know any better and they think they know better lol add into it it's gangs that run this shit into most places and they make more profit with other drugs Vs smuggling hash tis a shame add into that crack downs and war tends to disrupt things at times too it's a shame people don't know what there missing

Hash will always be relevant in some way.
It's as simple as it gets. Weed, water, ice, effort.
There has to be something said for the purity of the process.

For me, sure it was fun and interesting to figure out how absolutely frosty I could grow buds with hydroponics. It was a whole new science curve to navigate, experiment with, and succeed at. I think a lot of people look for the next cool thing, constantly. One thing I found myself wondering was "why". The weed I grew was putting experienced smokers on their asses. Saying things like "I've never even seen weed like that before", and the classic "what the fuck was that?!". So why keep pushing the envelope?
A hash high is just as scientifically good as a chem-ed out hydro/butane extraction oil, and so much more of a planet dwelling human way to get there.

There's also the buy in that comes along with any new tech. A new this, another one of those, ooooooooh that one's better.
It gets old feeling like just another gear in the massive machine of economy and waste. Seriously though, how many old grow hoods do we all have?

So, without a logical reason to push the percentages as far as possible, and a simplified process that's incredibly easy to maintain, Hash wins.
I mean, you can get a good set of bubble bags for around $50. Take care of them and they'll last forever, just like Grandpa used to say.
On that point, by the time I'm old enough to be a grandpa, I'll be all set with pain meds. Hash increases in potency as it ages, so a couple temple balls stored away every year will be great in another 20 years. I have a 2020 Kush hash that put me in space and completely numbed most of my body. At only 5 years, SO much stronger. It might unlock time travel as well, cuz there's like three days I really don't remember.

But yeah, HASH

Hash use has increased in Ontario since legalization. It was never very popular here, most people smoke flower but all concentrates are becoming more popular now. The popularity of Happle's, glass BT pipe, shows how the interest in hash has grown over the last 7 years. What's trendy or popular is going to be different depending where you are, I don't know if sweeping statements will ever accurately show what consumers are doing or why

generalized answers can go so many ways and People are sheep to marketing’s so it only takes such to get buyers and issue also is people when going into clubs or black market it isn’t presented as a grade, which properly done hash is just as good as rosin imo., they will def buy hash/kief in future and not USA based market def does still . I love smoking good cured hash or kief in edibles to my bong/smoking wise also.
