why is topping recommended with lst pot shaping

So why do the guides recommend when you have trained your plant around your pot that you top the main growth tvip? Isn't the point of lst to keep all your tops?

it will branch more when you cut the top therefor giving you multiple vertical buds and a bigger yield.

When you top the plant does it decrease potency? whats better, FIMing or topping?
