Why Not Put in the Reservoir?

ok ive been teetering on the verge of a recirculating system for some or all of my girls for a while now and since ive been using a hands free watering system(water comes in from res and is caught in separate container and evacuated from the grow area( i have noticed that there are a couple times where after a few days my water tank is slimy or has froth from the aerator, im trying to compile a list of do not use nutrients and additives for your reservoir due to the fact that i just read that the superthrive that i occasionally add can be one of the culprits and should not be used in a recirculating system
any help will be much appreciated

I use superthrive all during vegs and they love it. I just use very little 5ml per 55 gal so its just a hint but you can tell on the days that you add it. I also never put more than a single dose in a nute solution.

What nutes are you using? The nutes I use, CES, have a micronutrient containg K2O called Uncle Johns; it always puts a slime on everything, but it never grows or progresses and is easily rinsed off during re swaps.

Generally any sort of organic material can cause slime and odor if you don't add beneficial microbes to break it down. Enzymes are a gamble depending on your specific setup. Sometimes enzyme products solve the problem, sometimes they make it worse. If you are not using any sort of organic additive, and still get a bad smell and slime, you can try a sterilizing product or you can again use beneficial microbes just to displace harmful ones.

i guess a better question is does it really matter or since i will be changing water every week. i use botaincare grow and bloom and a cal mag from them too, for veg i use suerthrive, humbolts roots the grow and cal mag, for bloom i hit them one time w the roots at the beginning then bud candy and snow storm along w carbo load and bloom booster from miracle grow, along w the bloom nute and cal mag...i finish w gravity...i do know that using molasses in my tank makes a smell and a slime...my veg res runs 25c, my bloom res about 21-22c

I have heard that anything over 70 is starting to get inviting. That being said I could be wrong entirely. Hopefully now that you posted more info, the res microbe master will chime in.
