Why Not to Use Grow Address for Seed Order

I saw an article in High Times that recommended only getting seeds from a dispensary, and also if you do order seeds online to not have them shipped to the grow address.

I was guessing there are two reasons for this shipping advice:
1) to avoid getting your grow robbed in case the people handling the package see the return address is a weed seed seller
2) to avoid getting in trouble with police

But #1 shouldn't be a problem if the place shipping your seeds uses discreet shipping, right? I mean it's not like the delivery man will look at the package and see something like "Weed Seed Sellers, Inc" on the return address if your seed merchant uses discreet shipping... so why be worried about having the seeds sent directly to the address of the grow? And I doubt busy delivery people who are probably under pressure to make deliveries on schedule have time to sit around all day and look up the name of the company on the return address of random packages they find interesting to find out if they sell weed seeds; so realistically even if you were having the seeds sent to your grow address I don't see how the person delivering the package would ever know what was being delivered there anyway... right?

And #2 shouldn't be a problem if it's legal to grow in your state of the US, right? (The Federal government isn't going after people who are in compliance with their state weed laws, right?)

So if you live in a state in which growing is legal, would it be reasonable to disregard that advice?

That’s all bs, no one cares if you’re ordering seeds. Seeds are legal to have first of all, secondly the only entity that knows they’re seeds is the place that sent them. I’ve had seeds, clones, flower, distillate, carts, tractor trailers with grow supplies (trays, pallets of coco) all that shit at my house, no one cares.. you have constitutional rights that prevent anyone from knowing what’s in your mailbox.

All the feds do if they find seeds coming through customs or the mail is maybe confiscate them and send you a notice of confiscation. If you're in a non-legal state it's still the feds that control the mail and they don't have the resources to bother with them. Now if you're getting pounds of drugs sent through the mail and they find them they will likely pursue things which could include involving local LE.

I remember going to the hydro store and scoping out the parking lot in case there were cops watching before going inside. We'd often park around the corner but looking back I don't see how that would have made any difference. I must have looked funny walking out and around the corner down the sidewalk with a 50L bag of hydroton. Chances are we were just being paranoid and the cops were down at the donut shop and didn't give a damn.

I used to be super paranoid too and either use a PO Box for seeds deliveries or ship them to a non-growing friend’s address. I had magic mushroom spores shipped to fake name at my parents house once. Pre-digital camera, I’d drive far from my house to have film with grow pics developed under fake names, my favorite was Bert Erniesen. In hindsight, I doubt the teenager running the film development counter at Sav-on was interested in reporting my closet grow.
I’d only buy supplies in person with cash because I was afraid “the man” would somehow keep track of any mail order purchases from hydro suppliers. Just getting new 400w HPS bulbs was a huge ordeal.
Fast forward to med legal and I stopped worrying about all that. Have had multiple seed orders shipped to my house over the past decade plus without worry. If I weren’t in a legal state, I’d probably still do the PO Box thing for seeds today though.

Hahaha the good bad old days. I drove 2 hours east in from the coast to buy grow lights/ gear and borrowed a car to do it lol. It ended up getting really bad in the area before I left. Several people in my circle did get popped growing( tuned all outdoor growers though ). Helicopters over my house kind of bad lol. I got lucky, keep it small now though even though I’m in legal rec state. I agree, nothing hurts using the PO Box or like your straight brother.Better safe than sorry if you’re in state where they will still toss your ass in prisons. Plenty of those states around so….

TBH it is amazing the High Times still exists.

Although, my new lights came in a box with a sticker that said "150w LED grow light kit". Luckily Covid rules prevent the courier leaving it with a neighbour.

True that. I started figuring out that a lot what was in HT in the ‘90s was suspect as I got better at growing. Kids that didn’t grow took everything in that rag as gospel. The pictures of buds were always outstanding though.
