Why start with a smaller pot?

It may be a stupid question, but one I haven't really seen answered and would be good to know if it'd make a difference or not.

Why do you pot in a smaller pot first then move to bigger pots s its roots develop more?
Would it matter if I put a small just germinated seed into a 3gal pot?

You can germ in bigger pot,but big pots take up a lot of space. My self i use a small dome then to party cups for two weeks then 3gal pots.,just have small t5 for seedlings and party cups.

so that the roots dry out as fast as possible, MJ loves air on her roots. plus you can pack yer plants closer together so that you don't need as much light.

ah right ok so it doesn't really matter but it;s better to start smaller and move into bigger pots then.
all down to personal preference i guess?

I grow in rockwool croutons. As soon as the clone's get roots they go into the tray they will get harvested out of. Personal, I hate transplanting is all.Extra UV clones, budroom.JPG

It matters lots to new growers, basically your gona get the watering wrong and overwater them in a big pot as oppose to a little pot where the plant roots can quickly establish and drain the soil more frequently preventing overwatering. For some it is the difference between success and failure.

If you get advice to start in a small pot and re-pot up as it gets bigger then this is the preffered method and most easiest for you to learn and why it is recomended. Plus you start seeds in seedling soil and repot up to flowering soil, this is simply not possible in a big 3gal pot. Peace
