Being as I don't agree with 99% of what our military does, I don't see a reason valuable enough to respect ANY person who voluntarily joins the US military, especially those who do it for "free education".
so, I don't understand your reply. He's advocating we get out of the Middle East. He said his perspective changed after being there. As far as I can tell, you two are in agreement over that. Maybe you don't agree with him joining the service but that's not what he was advocating.

I do agree with him. Not only on the countries that he listed, but every country that we stick our fat noses into.

Short of our country being under direct attack, I just cannot come up with one good reason why any smart, sane person would join the American military gang.

Special interest bullies, pawns, and repub-approved mercenaries seem to be the order of the day. The 'united front' mentality that existed during WWII is a thing of the past.
Who needs sincere, 'heroic acts' when we can just recruit heaps of bored/directionless red state kids via brainwashing and recruitment ads that make the US Military Complex seem like a friggin video game?

"LIVE THE ADVENTURE!!" (cock rock theme swells in the background)

Uh, yeahhhhh......
