wierd lettuce looking buds, fault of bad npk?

when my plants started flowering i started using a fertilizer with 14 4 28 npk. now i have 2 plants that seem to have what i call "vegetive flowering". my buds are all weak and thin, lots of wierd lettuce looking leaves come out of the buds. the leaves are long and many (they dont even look like weed leaves at all!! bright shiny green, short curved SINGLE leaves) , the white antennas (pistils?) are thin and practically non-existant. i have 2 plants acting this way, and the other 3 are fine. i just dont get it. i dont know if i should stop with the fert stuff i'm using or will i just be depriving "sick" plants of nutrients that may help them out of the problem. and no i cant change fert brand, my pot hobby is a "zero-investment" one (someone gave me the fertilizer). i've been growing for 4 years with great results, and this is the first time i've seen this. this is also the first time i've used this kind of npk. okay, so sounds like the npk right? maybe its even obvious, but has anyone ever seen wierd sick lettuce like buds like this before? its truly sad.

wow 14 4 28 ?

No wonder, your overdosing your plants, trying using 1/4 th of that, it might work better

bright shiny green means wayyy to much Nitorgen, if i was you id flush then a couple of times in a row and start with 1/4th of the npk, althought its very unbalanced npk it should be better then the hole lot.

well the bad news is that one of the most lettuce like plant is dead. it was so pathetic i just threw it out. (after quickdrying a little, it was so nasty) anyway, i do have pics of the other one with the "vegative flowering" and also of my healthy ones (who have taken the same npk). the crap 1,2,3 pics are of my northern lights that are wierd and crap. the NL good are my northern lights who have come along well; and then theres the bb files, its my bendy bubblicious plant. or well i thinks its a bubblegum, cuz it really does have the smell of gum. had to bend it with fishing line twice to stop it going over my wall for the ppl next door to see. anyway hope you all like the pics, let me know what you think. ps, i have stopped the npk and am just watering regularly now. and those crap pics, my god, in mid october a northern lights shouldnt look like that. thin leafy buds. i'm sure i wont even smoke it. just more weed in the garbage.

WTF..? That does look really screwy, I see what you mean and why you're concerned. But they don't appear overfertilized, either. You've found NO male flowers on these plants, either, have you?

How do you get bud off a plant like that? Did they grow out any trichomes?

there were never any males flowers on these plants. as for the trichomes, they are there but theyre very small, underdevoleped, too sparsed out. they look like a girls hairy stubbly legs, what should be beautiful has this sortof unshaven shaggy look. yeah, thats the word for these trichomes, shaggy, like the few hairs on shaggys chin (from scoobydoo). i'm so pissed. also, it should be known that on ALL these plants, the trichomes are about 95 percent white. 20th october and all white. why are they so late? this never happened to me. My wife keeps telling me to cut em and i keep saying "no, its not a thing you do by date, you go by the color, like with bananas, your telling me to cut em while theyre still green and we need them 90 percent black" after 4 years of this and i'm still exlaining it to her. anyway, i would also like to clarify that me calling them northern lights is only cuz the guy who gave them to me was like "yeah man its northern lights, one of the most expensive out there" and I just thought yeah right...but in the end I have seen a ressemblence to that strain, but cant be sure either. also look at the tops of my "good northern lights". they look just a bit like the wierd plant dont they? they get a bit sparsed out at the very tops of the buds. these plants my "friend" gave me are getting to be more trouble than theyre worth. even the good northern lights, okay it has big fat buds, but upon closer examination, we notice that they are mostly leaf. very pretty, but not to practic for smoking. i'm sure the best smoke i'll have this year is my own home-grown mix of i dont know what that i've been smokin for years. dammit, and they got my mix pregnant, so now i'm gonna have the same problems next year..i might actually have to resort to buying seeds next year because i dont like wasting my time like this.

Are these from known good seeds? I am still way too new to have seen anything like this, I'd be pretty pissed off if this were the result of my work. And for me there is little reason to doubt your ability to grow this plant, to me 4yrs is plenty enough to have some say on the matter.

So, I ask myself, is it more likely than not that it's the grower, or the genetics of the plant? And I think that, in this case, it's more likely that you've got some weird genetics going on here. What's your gut telling you on this? You mentioned a new fert, but I don't remember what it was called. The numbers just seemed better for veg, seriously diluted (I like to feed weakly at this point in my career), and like you'd need something with that phosphorous boost for flowering. But you've got to already know all this, at least that's what I think.

For flower you need highest P.... then K and lowest N.... I didn't read all so if a repeat sorry..... 10-25-20.. sort of ratio,..... I used a 10-52-10 this year.(other sold out)..

I personally am blaming it on both the genetics of the plant AND the fert (which by the way is called agroflash). 3 out of five plants put up with this fert well enough. so I'm blaming this apperant "northern lights" as being a very leafy headed plant to begin with. add my super leafy fert and presto, they just didnt go well together. I'd like to know if anyone knows any good deals for buying seeds online. I need to know what company i can trust, what strains might be the best buy, and the legality of ordering them in france. I imagine with having amsterdam and spain just next-door that the shipping should be quick and maybe less complicated legally(as far as which countries they physically traverse whilst on route to my mail box). I've got friends back in the states that say ordering on line is risky. I dont know why but i get the feeling it could be less risky over here(i hope!). plus I certainly wouldnt want them sent directly to my house.. just the idea of paying already pisses me off. then thinking of all the complications of getting good seeds to me just pisses me off more. well at least 3 outta 5 aint bad for this year. anyway, if anyone wants to talk to me about leafy buds, this thread is here. but as far as talking about ordering seeds i guess i should find another thread for that so as to stay on subject and to not piss of the admin/s here.

After reading all the posts in this thread, I am leaning toward bad genetics also. There is something to be said for growing known genetics. I am in the US and cannot even consider buying seeds. I wish I could, right now it is not worth the risk. I was given a couple clones of an unknown strain when I started and sometimes get bud envy when I see some of these designer strains. The strain I have is a real workhorse and is very predictable. Lesson learned on unknown strains.

Looks to me like it has begun to flower and then reverted back to veg and thn back to flower again.
Maybe the clones were taken during flowering or the plants have been over shaded to often in the area that they are in.:blsmoke:

10-52-10 sounds perfect for flowering...too bad i tested out that 14 4 28..i'll never touch that crap again. a lesson hard learned. in the npk: p is for phlower :) now i know :) infact, foolishly, i think i already did know and still just figured that just about anything would "turbo charge" my plants, and so tried what was at hand. a mistake i'll never repeat. I just checked out the Nirvana seed site link on here, 20-45 euros for 5-10 seeds promised to be all female. I think that and a bottle of flowering-fert special for weed could be a 75 euros investment...dont know if i'm willing to shell out money and take more risks for whats supposed to be a free hobby for me...hmmmm...dammit! choices choices...at least for the moment i'm smoking 24 7, which helps me cope with the confusion :D this may have been a half-baked harvest, but i'm still gettin 100 %baked!

I still don't think that, with four years under your belt, you could have fucked up feeding these plants that badly. For one thing, if you're really 100% baked, how come you can still make sentences, huh?

my dad was a tattooist/IBM'er. i was born in 74 in a cloud of pot smoke with a keyboard in my crib :D so tactile typing is up to par, even whilst baked :)
