so i was doing my usual news checking today, and i bumped into Wikileak's latest... hits?

Any of you think what they do is bad/good?

i think this is good for the transparency needed nowadays, however things shouldn't be known this way. Maybe the military should know that their moral and objectives do not only pertain to unclassified material.

please read some news before you comment.

i think someone blew their website up, haven't been able to log on all morning.
yeah im kinda scared for them,
i mean they(wikileaks) used to get spied all the time, ransacked and threatened, but now they will be in greater danger.

"i mean they(wikileaks) used to get spied all the time, ransacked and threatened, but now they will be in greater danger."

As they should be - their actions put more lives at risk.

Certain things need to remain classified for several reasons:

1. Pertaining to technology, do you really want the Middle East, China, etc. getting hold of our top defense tech?
---The reason the cold war didn't erupt in nuclear strikes was because both countries valued their lives. But how do you prevent something like that from happening with
---the crazy religious zealots that don't care if they die or not (and would prefer dieing because they get "72 virgins" or something ridiculous like that".)
2. Many times our operatives in foreign countries can be compromised. Many times if you're compromised, most times you're tortured and executed. In addition the family of the American is targetted as well. When I was in the Middle East, information on some of our officers was found out by some Pakestanis that were on their own program. They started spouting off the officers' home address, phone number, kids names, wife's name, etc as people who they were going to attack. Security is critical! In my experience, there were very few things that I woudl have considered "morally questionable" that were of a classified or higher nature. But most of them would have resulted in one or more of our guys dieing.

Unfortunately we have another administration that is not telling the truth about the war.

Sad

thanks for the insight (compared to the absolutely empty response from Angelsbandit, not worth quoting)
yeah some of the stuff shouldnt be release, but i think the "few things" that were questionable are worth releasing.
this obviously comes back to the point of war in afg and irak, but that's not the focus.

Well played indeed.
The founder of wiki will be on CNN Larry King tonight.
Will be a good watch that is for sure.

All of it is raw intelligence which means that it has not been verified or vetted by analyst. It is also good to remember why we are there and that America isn't in the business of killing civilians. We have massively tightened our rules of engagement and in many cases if the taliban are using civilians as cover we will allow them to fire and leave. Some things need to be secret, that is just reality. You can't run a country, much less a war if all the information available to your front line commander is also available to his enemy.

you people make me sick

the people deserve to know what their secretive, shadow government is doing behind their back

plain and simple, the people have a right to now

just because its classified, so what

torture was classified does that make it ok because it was a matter of "national security"

wiki leaks ftw

strategy, resources and all that truly need to be secret, because everybody who has been in war (or played RTS) knows how important information is. Does that mean sensible information about human rights and black ops are to remain secret as well?
i mean i do understand they should be secret, its war, nothing else, but this is a completely foreign point of view (as well as wikileaks), and i think some of you arguing that its "damaging to the interests of the US" well damn true it is, but that's not the point, the point is what the US is doing, been doing, did and will do and WHY.

why don't our government just tell us the real reason why we're over there? which is to surround iran with u.s. bases to attack them at a moments notice.
