I had problems with my 1000watt $200 bulb, got the same story from retailers, said fuck it and run regular MH and HPS. Now The problems have stopped(so far) and my MH bulbs are $80.

It would come on but never get bright, sometimes. That's the worst when stuff wont work only sometimes. Hydro store guy said it was the digital ballast, maybe, so I bought a new magnetic ballast for the bulb. After 7 months it would not get bright again, so I took it back to the store and the guy said he'd send it back to the company to see if they want to give me another bulb(They need to analyze it to determine the problem). I also had a bunch iof problems with dual-arc bulbs, samem kind of bullshit.
So I eventually concluded that If I really wanted to try to provide a complete spectrum I should just run multiple bulbs of different colors. So far the bulb problems have been eliminated.

Those bulbs are designed to work with magnetic. It probably will work but id want to get the most out of that bulb by running it proper because that is a bad ass and expensive bulbs.

the one bulb i've blown so far was a blue eye hortilux in my galaxy digital ballast.. the bulb was only like a month or two old when it went too, i was not a happy camper to say the least..
i've since gone with either digilux bulbs, or more recently i have switched to sunpulse mh's, which you can buy in various k ratings, from like 3k all the way up to 10k, and you just use the correct k for the right phase of growth..
i just ran these in my last grow, mh's from seed to harvest, and simply fell in love with them.. pricey, but no more so than say the blue eye hortilux's.. :)

I have used a 400 watt hortilux blue on a 400 watt lumatek ballast no problem. I ran it for 2 crops then replaced it with a digilux bulb just to ensure i was getting maximum output, i still have the hortilux bulb just encase the digilux bulb burns out.
