will a 400 watt cause heat promlems in 2x4x7

HelloEveryone,

I have a 2x4x7 tent and would like to know if a 400 watt HPS only is ok and would there be some heat issues? Would it be better to go with the digital ballast HPS/MH? Really don't know how many pots I can fit in there either without hampering growth. This is my first indoor grow so thought I make it small and simple just to get my feet wet.Thanks everyone...........

With intake and exhaust fans that will be fine.

Well your always going to have issues with heat that's why you need to get a ventilation system. With proper ventilation you should be fine IMO and those sized tents would be good for a 400 watter. If you wanted to go with the switchable ballast you could but not absolutely necessary. I used to own a 400 watt HPS I used for a grow and a 250 watt MH I used for a grow and I vegged for a few weeks but my 400 watt MH gave me the biggest most robust plants I've ever grown. I would definately recommend using one for veg if you can maybe you can find a used light or light(s) for cheap.

my buddy had a 4x4x 6.5 tent and he ran a 400 watt hps all he had was probs with heat if you dont have one try to get an inclosed refelctor.....like a cool tube.... one that keeps the light in its own z one one that looks like this and a good can fan then kiss all ur heat probs good bye....mount ur fan outside ur tent pulling the air throu its always easyer to pull then push........ i know it can be spendy but its all worth it in the end

You'll be fine. I have a 2'x5'x5'. I have a 165cfm suckin' air off the bulb and traveling out of the room, and an even smaller fan blowing across the bulb from the other side. It's actually blowing under the bulb right over the plants.

I have a 400w and a 150w side by side. The 400w is about 8 inches off my tops. My 150w is about 4 or 5 inches off the tops.

My room stays between 71 and 80. It's starting to get warm in Cali though. Moving everything to 2000w and an AC unit by the end of the month. STOKED!
