will a 400w HPS work throughout all the plant cycles?

i mean, its probably not prefered but will it work and not damage the yield?
i have
2 Cool Natural Light DAYLIGHT 6500k 26w CFLs at 1600 lumens each
2 Mini Spiral Soft White 26w CFLs at 1750 lumens each
1Lucalox 400w HPS at 51,000 lumens

what would be the best cycle without changing my bulb or buying more? what cycle, i mean

and to change to different stages...is that done by the daylight/night schedule, or with the light spectrum?

OK here is what i would do..... Just use the 400w for the entire cycle. The HPS will do good enough for vegg. Keep the light kinda close to the plants so they dont stretch, but not too close to burn them. THose 400's get hott. U need to really cool the grow area though. Use 18 hours of light on, then 6 hours off for the vegg cycle, then when you want to start flowering, change the light to 12 hours on, then 12 off, thats basically it bro.

If your not trying to buy more light, simply use the HPS as your flowering and use thoes CFLs as the Veg. maybe get a small perpetual going. im not sure of your sutup you know?

gracius, perfect, jus what i was hoping, a simple exhaust and intake fan should be sufficient eh? maybe jus a standing or box fan on low?

You can grow under just the 400 watt hps, but it will affect the yields. Cannabis, as with most every other plant, needs a full spectrum of lighting to produce maximum yields. I would veg the plants under the hps on an 18/6 light schedule, but also add supplemental cfl or flourescent lighting of the 6700K spectrum. You can place these lights closer to your plants and still utilize light from the HPS. Once into flowering, you can keep the 6700k lighting going or simply remove it altogether and just let the 400 watt do its business. I would reccomend leaving them in. All my T-5 flower lights have 3x 2700K Bulbs and 1x 6700K Bulb to give the plants a wider spectrum of light.

good point although if you cant be arsed the 400w hps will be fine

good to know, one more wuestion, they do make HPS to Halide conversion bulbs....correct? would one of them be good for veg. and hps for flowering?

mtunz i think everyone in the fourm may give you different advice .

Nilla Ice gave some pro advice regarding the spectrum although if you cant be arsed and just want good bud, run the cfl during veg hps inb the last 5 weeks.

I get clean smoke no issues using hps all the way through. I use 250veg 400flower = image below

i didnt read any of the other posts, but yes. you can. You should get an hps bulb with added blue spectrum, i very strongly suggest that ,VERY! lol

I got a 400w HPS right now, and whereas it won't have as much blue as the CFLs, it's going to kick out a LOT more light than those CFLs. CFL will be good for the first two weeks, but I would migrate them to the HPS after that. Your CFL setup is gonna be good for the babies, but once they get bigger, a light setup under 10,000 lumens will make their growth a lot slower after a certain amount of time has passed.

I just upgraded to a 400w dual ballast setup and I'm already noticing an immediate difference. A cool idea would be to use the CFLs for clones (once you can take your first clippings, that is) and the HPS for flower (I think that was suggested earlier), allowing you to start a SoG and start harvesting more frequently.

SoG = Sea of Green. SoG was a method developed long ago that basically dictates that the grower have seperate rooms dedicated to plants in various phases. The most efficient setup I saw involved 5 rooms, 1 momma/clone room and 4 flower rooms with plants at various stages of maturity. This 5-room setup allowed the grower to harvest every two weeks, leaving him in a metaphorical sea of green buds. After two weeks one room would be harvested, the newly rooted clones would be transferred to the now empty room, and the momma would have some more clones snipped. Scrog is kind of a pun on SoG, since it's a "screen of green", and you hit the head on the nail. Place a screen over a plant (after doing some low stress training) and watch the colas pop up everywhere.

hm...ya but it sounds more of...what i dont want ya know? i dont want to worry bout cops bustin down my door, rather jus have 1plant, if somethin happens, plant goes in fireplace, its all good, but a whole setup....wtf.....use tomato plants lol

My best grows have been SOG with induction lamps that emit UV and IR wavelengths. I don't if it will be SOG but there's a journal up on RIU @ https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/401594-blue-dream-800w-induction-lights.html with the setup and pics if you've not seen one.

Blaaaze up bongsmilie

please dont threadjack. I know you mean no harm and its probally a first grow for u that you are very excited about, but its considered by many on here to be in very bad taste.(i myself dont think its a big deal if a noob does it once or twice not realizing it, but if theyve been told and keep doing it it is a different story, so i trust you will not do so again as well). Im going to give you the benefit of the doubt, i'll help you a bit. not in this thread though.
