I was wondering if I can attach the cool works ice probe chiller to a 3.5 gal dwc bucket without any leaks before I drilled a hole in bucket .

if you can get a water tight seal off it i don't see why not. i've seen 1 person on google image do it on those big indoor water containers that are round. the plastic is more flexible compared to a 5gal bucket though. if your using one of those rubber maid bins no doubt they should work. you can always use aquarium safe silicone to seal it tighter as well. if it's safe for aquarium fish trust me that shit safe for your plants.

just my 2cents

It should work, but if your res is only 3.5 gallons the water / feed in the res might get way to cold. I know with a 6 gallon res it brings the res water temperature down 8 to 10 fahrenheit from my environments ambient temperature. So if my grow rooms, at the floor temperature, is 74F, my res temperature using this chiller stays between 64 to 66f.

I would use a Inkbrid to turn off @ 18 Celcius and turn back on when it hits 20 Celcius.

But instead of drilling a hole in your res and insert a cooling probe ( Probe will get cold quick and might be to cold that it will shock the roots ). I`m not an electrician or have a science degree but, what if you wrap copper coils outside your res covering as much surface area. I`m not sure if the Tec pad would cool it enough, maybe add another one and plug it to an inkbird again. Safe roots, no prob inside. Efficient with the Inkbird system. Will it be sufficient to cool 20Liters.

There is also the water pump + tec idea but that`s adding noise with the addition of the water pump.
