Hi I'm a noobie and I was wondering if anyone could help me? I started to germinate my seeds, Pakistani valley, and I just put them in the soil about 1/4 to a 1/2 inch down and watered them. I was wondering how long will it take for them to sprout and should I have done the paper towel method? Also should I use light for the seed to sprout up? If you can help me it would be MUCH appreciated.
 
Seed germ times in soil can very but typically withing 3-7 days. There's nothing wrong with planting right into soil, I prefer the paper towel method but have also had good luck just throwing them in. I don't do light on my beans until I see one break ground, but thats just to save energy.... good luck

Your method is the most natural method. It's harmful for your roots to be every exposed to any light. I have the lights on because it keeps my box warm, but if you can control temperatures you don't really need any light. I also like to have the lights on when the first leaves show up so I just keep it on but it's just my opinion.
