I'm proposing the idea that the written word is the most powerful weapon that exists. It can defeat the most powerful enemy we face - ignorance.
Ignorance is defined as a lack of knowledge, learning or information.
I believe ignorance is the leading cause of all of the major problems we face. It can be connected to everything, and that's not an exaggeration.
We cannot defeat ignorance with conventional weapons - guns, knives, bombs, etc. We can only defeat it with the spread of knowledge, the support and endorsement of structured learning and credited education, and the genuine honest pursuit of true information that we can pass on to future generations, so they can build upon it and take it even farther, so our species can advance.
Who suppresses information? Who opposes science? Who advocates dark age theories?
These are the organizations that are the enemy of progress. They are the ones that turn people away from genuine knowledge, and in a lot of cases, knowledge that could have saved someones life. Can we hold them responsible? I don't think so, but we have to hold ourselves responsible for allowing such organizations to get into positions in our society where they can determine for the rest of us what is considered "moral" and what isn't, what's "right" and what's "wrong", based on ancient beliefs that hold no basis in what it actually means to be a moral person in the 21st century. While they have philosophical value that we can all learn lessons from, they're not necessary to do so, and can be learned through other means - much more moral, humane and reasonable means, by any sane persons standards.
Words destroy ignorance. Keep spreading knowledge and perusing the endeavor of attaining genuine information. The rest will happen all on it's own.
