day 22 update

so i had a little problem. i thought it was heat stress at first but found out i had a nitrogen toxicity nute burn. good thing i caught it in time. flushed it twice two days in a row. now they are looking better. i topped a few of them today and i had fimmed a pair a few days ago. the new growth on the fimmed ones, well one of them looks deformed the other one gave me no new tops so im pissed. but oh well, i guess u can fail at fimming. im running in my nute solution 1ml of root excelurator, less then 1 tspn of dynagrow liquid grow, some calmag, and silca pro. they didnt have dynagrow protekt at my friend's hydro shop. im also feeding it great white. not sure how to best apply it but im testing out new ways. i got the 4oz for 30 bucks. if i fuck up ill just get more. i saw online they are selling 5lbs of mycorrihae granular bag for 90 bucks. i think im going to buy it for the transplant. question, when should i transplant into 7 galllon trash bins? li saw the root mass for one of the plants and they are pretty huge. but i wonder if i have to wait until they wrap around the solo cup for me to transplant or not.
You do know what FIM actually stands for.... Fuc.. I Missed.

As far as transplant, the longer you wait the better your odds of are of keeping the whole perlite core together during transplant. From the pics I'd say you have a little longer to wait for transplant. I personally like for the roots to curl up a bit on the side of the cup/pot before transplanting.

Your plants do look a lot better smoothness, keep up the good work.

i mean but fimming is suppose to give you muiltiple colas right? all i got was a deformed looking extra leaf(so theres liek 3 leaves when theres suppose to be 2 sets of leaves) and the other half of the node is this huge glob of craziness. my other one i fimmed just grew up like normal which is a waste of time since it just grew two branches and a middle growth.

do you know when the wrinkle damaged look on the leaves will go away? its from nitrogen nute burn but i flushed twice already and the new growth still looks all weird-looking.

and how many more weeks do you think i have before i can transplant? i got this 1000 watt mh lamp i want to put them under but they are growing oh so slow. i hate being a first time grower. i literally lay right next to the plants and try to "watch it grow" haha. i would suck being a parent, i think i would wake up my baby to see if the are alive in the middle of the night.

Yes fimming is supposed to give 4 equal heads. From what I've seen 8 out of 10 who try miss the sweet spot with the cut. I've never tried. I'm building bigger plants so if I want 4 heads then I'll top it twice.

I take it that you are also looking for larger plants also since you are using 7gal buckets. If that is the case then I wouldn't top before the plants get 6 to 8 inches tall. When I top I will take at least 2 nodes (the new start and a full established node) if I want to clone it I'll take another node also.

My guess is another 10 to 14 days in the solo before transplant, they should have 6 real nodes by then. If you are looking for a good sized bush then it will take another 4 to 6 wks of veg. Your rm size will determine how large a bush you'll want. Patience is the hardest part of the first grow. Its like growing tomatoes, you plant the seed and it's at least 4 months before you can eat any, and there's nothing you can do to speed it along.

reason i wanted to top early was to have it bush out early. im trying to use these 14-15 babies as mothers for the 128 clones i need haha. wow thats alone of cuttings. luckily i bought the ez clone 120. so i should take cuttings that have at least 2 nodes from the cut? a friend of mines told me 7 gallon buckets will make my babies into monsters.. and that i should go for 3-5 gallons max. but the 7 galllon trash bins are only 5 bucks each! would the big size make it grow slower? i need it to veg out as fast as possible since the lease ends in april which means the landlord has the right to show off the house in march. so i got roughly 4 months left to finish this project. would an 1000 w lamp turned to half capacity be better for healthier and fuller growth then these 4 54w t5? plus i heard mh had healing capacities...

i think i topped 3-4 plants last night at the 4th node. (do we count the first set of true leaves or start with the first set of 3 finger leaves?) hopefully i have 2 heads by next week from them. the root excelurator and the great white are making massive long beastlike roots. all big and white. looks like a weird seedweedlike beard. the rootmax is probably the size of a tomatoe or a little smaller. i am proud of them haha.

though one of them might not make it. bleh.

so you say i should wait til the 5-6 node to start getting clones?

thanks for yalls input. i couldnt have done it this far without you guys here at W.O.H.

Hi WOH, im currently trying a sort of ghetto auto-pot system which consists of 25, 2 litre bottles with 8 verticle slits in the bottom to a height of 2inches which replaces the hempy hole. i have 5 rows of 5 in a 1m garland tray (12 cm deep) ,the tray is filled to a depth of 2 inches with nutrients and the slits let in the water. the bottles have 3 inches of perlite and are topped off with coco

so far everything looks great and the plants look well but the roots have started coming out of the cuts to the bottom of the bottle and are now wandering around the tray lol.
this came as a great surprise to me as thats why i cut them like that, i thought the roots wouldn't get out of the razor cuts:dunce:.

can i prune the roots that escape or will i have to construct a cover of some sort to stop light hitting the escapees , also will the roots keep going and eventually drown? i have a little experience of nft and the roots go into the res with no problem but idk.

the other issue i have is with algae, as i have been lazy and a little bit of green is in with the perlite before i had a chance to cover the bottoms of the bottles, will this cause any bother?

this is my first time doing anything like a hempy so i appeal to you all for your thoughts and imput ,sorry for the lack of pics but i cant get the phone and laptop to talk....

I wouldn't prune any roots EVER. (except if I was transplanting). No, just leave them and they'll do their own thing (IMO).

A little algae on the top of the bottles is no problem. Algae in the catch tray is not so nice but won't damage plants. Water in the catch tray will increase humidity.

Hi Guys,

my laptop has been acting weird and no starting 99% of the time, its working atm but I defo need an upgrade. I've been following WOH on my TV but can't reply, its been very frustrating. :cuss:

Anyways, Ive done a bit of work in my grow room and hooked up my 3rd 600w hood w/ its own CF and fan. Its a Magnum and I love the larger size.

My hempys have really exploded in growth. Due to me working in the room there were 3 days in which the plant got poor light and light leaks. The plants are still healthy. I took a mass of clones from them but my heated propagator was too high and it cooked them.

This is a plant from in the middle of that tray. It has grown upwards towards the light (phototropism) and this has defined its shape. The plants to to the edge developed more side branches. I have had to bend the branch 90 degrees as it was hitting the hood.

These plants really like the mapito. Despite being crowded-in the growth is quite impressive to me, for a 2L. I've taken clones from these and removed the odd sick leaf.
The one on the right is Exodus cheese the one on the left is a Lemon Skunk.

@ ineverveg; You need to get the light off of your rez. Get some hydroton and fill your rez around your bottles. Then your roots can grow freely. You won't be able to move the bottles after this maneuver if that is a concern to you.

or fit lids around the bottles.

sorry for the confusion ,atm the res is 80% covered with 4" strips of ducktape running in straight lines between the bottles like a tic tac toe grid but there is light getting through as the bottles are round and the holes created by the tape are square..i rushed into this a bit and im looking to change the temp fix tape with something, i like the hydroton idea as i was thinking of cutting 25 circles in 1m square plastic but thats a chore and with the hydroton i would be able to put 36 in if necessary
@wattsaver, is it possible to swap 1 bottle with hydroton if i get a runt ect?

@mobius , even if the roots get right round the tray the roots will not drown?

sorry ,i feel like a noob lol but i got balls deep in this without proper preperation or forethought, your help is most appreciated

If you go with the Hydroton and don't fill the 2nd outer res, they won't drown.

edit:

why make a lid out of black plastic? 6mm Plywood is easier. ... all the same, it is a pain in the rear. I like the sound of using hydroton. If the bottles dont have to be moved.

My Mapito order came today.....tossing around the idea of leaving out the perlite in the bottom of my next 2gal bucket grow. I don't want to change my watering amount though,,,,it's so nice feeding an even 1gal per bucket with my #3 perlite in the bottom (mixing nutes is a breeze). I'll bet the res fill amount is different with a different medium down there. Anyway I need to decide which strain to go with to showcase this medium...I have a one week to go before seeds should be germed for the next grow to overlap seamlessly.
Here's my inventory of seeds: What would you pick for the cooler temps coming and a new hempy bucket medium?
BF Blue Cheese
BF LSD
DP Blueberry
G13 Pineapple Express
Shark's Breath
Crazy Miss Hyde
BF Red Dragon
BF Acapulco Gold
Nirv. Bubblicious

Nice list of seed jella10. If you want a fair comparison I'd grow a strain you've already grown if one's in that list. But me I'd grow the AG even though its a 5 month commitment.

how long did it take you to veg those beauties out moebius? im dying of impatience...

oh just a thought. i was wondering if i should transplant my babies into 2 liters in 10 days ot just right into their final home of 7 gallon buckets? what would promote faster growth?

What's up guys I'm hoping my fellow hempy growers can help me out a little on my new plans to run 2 simultaneous tents. My concern is with the ventilation. Each tent is planned to be 3x3x5. My carbon filter is capped on one end so it must be the beginning of a duct run and all "stinky" air must pass through the filter making scrubbing two tents with one filter kind of tricky. My solution is to build a small box that will hold my 6" 400cfm inline fan and my large 6" filter. the fan will pull air through the filter and push it through short ducting out the box and out a window. The intake of the small box will be a "y" split of 6" ducting that leads back to each tent. Each tent will have a passive 10" intake. I also have a 6" "booster" fan rated at 200 cfm that I can use to help push air into the scrubbing box. I don't know if it actually makes a difference. I plan on having a 250w HID in one tent and 10 23w cfls in the other. My model is crude but it helps illustrate my plans pretty clearly. Any help or commentary on this is really appreciated.
