Two pounds of still-green weed found in a 2,700-year-old Gobi Desert grave

Nearly two pounds of still-green plant material found in a 2,700-year-old grave in the Gobi Desert has just been identified as the world's oldest marijuana stash, according to a paper in the latest issue of the Journal of Experimental Botany.

A barrage of tests proves the marijuana possessed potent psychoactive properties and casts doubt on the theory that the ancients only grew the plant for hemp in order to make clothing, rope and other objects.

They apparently were getting high too.
Lead author Ethan Russo told Discovery News that the marijuana "is quite similar" to what's grown today.

I bet that is some premium weed. Imagine, no chemicals, no harmful pollutants in the air, just clean. With a remarkable time spent curing.

Is the DEA sending over a recovery team? And who're they going to prosecute? Maybe they can do a DNA test and jail the ancestors.

I wonder if the seeds are still viable.

It would be cool to grow that strain, then you could name it a really great name like Ancient Gold or Ancestor Gold or Prehistoric Gold or ....... S

you see many millenia ago there was a swamp monkey, that like to eat mushrooms and flowers it found in the swamp, these foods had psychoactive properties which led to great leaps in evolution like self recognition and language and even religion/science or the ability to theorize.

wow thats crazy all that weed, probably the best weed on earth, and its all going to get destroyed by the goverment. so sad. and along with the weed all of its pure ancient genetics gone. may the cannabis gods grant some pot head cop the courage to steal a hand full of this marijuana and some seeds to keep the ancient strain going. stay high.
