Would appreciate a little advice

Hello. I am currently in my 3rd grow and have ran into a problem that I would really appreciate a little advice from someone a little more experience. The leaves on several of my plants are cupping (up and down, on some leaves the middle finger is cupping up, while the other fingers will cup down) and I have also noticed some very small yellow/brown spots appearing on the lower leaves (very few, but they seem to be getting worse). I am currently growing Cheese, Blue Widow, Diesel and a few of these Nepali Hybrids I got as freebies. The rest of the plant look good, they r green and growing and overall look very good to me. I would like to prevent any real problems before they get bad if at all possible.
I am growing under a 400 watt hps, which is about 2 to 3 feet above canopy ( depending on the plant), temps are about 78 to 80 degrees at the canopy and RH is about 30 to 40% I am usingmFox Farms trio for soil with happy frog soil, I only water when pots feel lite and have been using distilled water. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for replies.

I cant really tell what your talking about from the pics. Take the plants in question out of the hps and get a picture in normal light and we may have a better chance with them. They look fine to me though.

I agree with Alienwidow, the lighting makes it hard to tell, though if I could offer some advice, do some searches on PH, here on RIU and google it. If the PH is off (normally creeps up on new growers) it can give you many different signs that can throw you off if left unchecked. Last night the slight rust spots showed up on my plants with slight yellow tips, low and behold the PH crept up to 7.0 on me locking out everything they needed. Less than 12 hours later the yellow is gone and they are perking up again.

are you in coco coir? Lock out at 7 in dirt?

You do not have a pH issue. The soil your in buffers pH well. Temps fluctuating high and low can cause them to cup. Heat is the main problem. also over/under watering. That or your soil has to much ferts for the strain. If they have yellow tips and twisted leaves.

Thank you for the fast replies! I love this site andeveryone's willingness to share knowledge. Here are a few pics of one of my cheese plants out of the light (i am afraid the pic still sucka tho, crappy camera with no resolution). My PH should be OK. I have a tester and xheck the PH of my water/nutes as well qs my runoff. Everything is always about 6.5 or so, qhich should be OK. I first noticed this problem a few weeks ago and thought that is wasmeither my PH or overwatering, so I have tried to stay on top of both, but there has not been any improvement of the leaf cupping. Overall the plants look good and growth aeems to be fine. They are in week 2 of veg right now (5 weeks from germ).

If your're using distilled water you should be adding a cal/mag supplement. Also 2-3 feet from the light is too far away. Get it a foot closer to 1-2' IMO and make sure you have a fan blowing on them. Are you just using the 'grow' nutes from FF now right or...?

I do notice just a little twisting of the edges of the new growth. There is also about a 10 degree temp flux between lights on and off (78-80 lights on, and about 70 lights off). I will see if I can get the day and night temps a little closer.
I have tried to feed sparingly (about half of the recomended fox farms feed schedule) in ordernto trynto prevent any overnute issues untill i got to know the strain (all new strains for me this grow), should i back off even more? (Sorry anout the spelling guys, typing on my tablet really sucks).

Every time I try to lower the light my plants freak out. I see definite signs of heat stress any lower (the very edge of the upper leaves curl up, but immediately relax when in raise the light back up). There does not appear to be any stretching. Indica Dom plants are staying short and building branches while sativa Dom plants are getting tall. There is also a fan that blows cool air on the top of the canopy (just enough to make the plants gently flutter).
I am currently using Grow Big and Big Bloom, no Cal Mag. Should i look into this?

Those temperatures are fine. Mine fluctuate about 10-15 degree F, sometimes more 65-85. Move that light closer and follow that fertilizer advice

I agree w the calmag suplimentation in the ro water but i think 2-3 feet away is fine with hid bulbs. It could be closer if your running aircooled bit if its barebulb you can have problems with closer.

I Have dona little more research and got a fee better pics of my cheese plants and a pic of all of my plants under the light. The big ones are my diesels which are really starting to stink. So i think my environment is ok, but my plants are experiencing some sort of moisture stress. I think maybe a potassium def (caused by lack of calcium?) Or a severe cal def. So I def need to get some cal in my feed schedule. Should i start using tap water (raw water ppm is 300) or keep using ro and just add cal mag? Thanks everyone!

Fox Farm soil has everything in it including calcium. You should not need anything for the first 3-4 weeks depending on the strain. Adding calcium is more for hydro. Soil is different. The nutrients can hang on to the soil for a long time. Especially in FF since it has a lot of hummis. The calcium is oyster shells and crab shells along w/ other amendments in their compost. It should tell you on there feeding chart if you need to supplement calcium and usually it states "if in hydro or other soilless medium". Too much calcium can lock out other nutrients so I wouldn't go crazy w/ it if you do decide to supplement.
