Ants should not hurt the ladies. They would help airate the soil I would think. Ants are mad smart.

true enough, they are already swarmed with ants lol. However i feel that WAY TOO MANY ants will make the soil more a home for ants and not for roots

by the way the plants are doing superb, the ants have not hurt them whatsoever, although i was very skeptical and almost moved them, good thing.

Fdd I am about to go research this, I thought the ants might chew on the roots though. Is this not the case? Like I said I did no research on ants just assumed they're bad. If they don't hurt the plant the lose and rich soil they make would seem sorta promising.

i'm pretty sure they don't hurt the roots. they may be a little beneficial. i could be wrong. they took over one of my pots. i watered recently and 100's of them came out of the mulch on top. they were all carrying eggs to safety. the plant seems to be doing fine.

I let ants take over a few of my ladies and they started cutting leaves and immature branches off, so I poisoned the hell out of every ant hill I saw within 30 ft of my grow and haven't had any more problems.

one bad thing about ants is they farm aphids.....they make a symbiotic relationship with them...aphids will destroy your plants and aphid farming ants will bring them....

c&p from wiki

Some species of ants "farm" aphids, protecting them on the plant they eat, and eating the honeydew that the aphids secrete; this is a mutualistic relationship. Aphid honeydew is rich in carbohydrates (like melezitose), of which the aphids ingest an excess, being phloem-feeders. Many aphids are host to endosymbiont bacteria, Buchnera, which live in specialized cells called Bacteriocytes inside the aphid. These bacteria synthesize some essential amino acids that are absent in the phloem that the aphids eat.

Thanks for the update, I haven't found anything about them chewing through roots. Did find the aphid deal however, ill just consider them unsafe in large numbers.

the ants in my outdoor soil seem to stay away from the branches, they are reddish and only seem to like the ground, perhaps they are harmless, but i will use at stakes just because .i dont see any aphids either

i may be lucky, the place where i an growing has soooo many bugs but there is minimal damage, im guessing i have many predator bugs to thank. Its funny because i was so positive that with that amount of bugs, my babies would be gone for sure, but every time i look there they are, i guess nature just has a way of balancing things out, everyone is food for someone else.

Also, i am growing belladona i dont know if its just me, but bugs dont seem to fond of it, they nibble and leave havent needed to spray one if your doing outdoor BELLADONA !!! I highly recommend giving belladona a try.
