WTF is with these frickin spider mites!?

Im doing a test on some marijuana plants, well not really a test. Since there is already spider mites on them I sprayed them and the soil below. They should be good except for the fact that their only like 15days old.

I used about 2x regular strength in the backyard 1/2x under the plant(sprayed sparingly). Ill probably take it easier next time, only had to spray like 8 times or so to get the entire plant.

I have read quite a bit on using the Hot Shot No Pest Strip because they contain dichlorvos and pretty much work on any pest...but there's a huge debate on the caustic nature of the dichlorvos. Avid is good if you can get your hands on it...it's been banned in CA and OR that I know of...since it's systemic it's said to last 40-50 days in the plant...I used to dunk clones in Avid before every grow. You might want to look into SNS 217, it's 100% natural and doesn't even have to register as a pesticide. Good Luck!

tell all my dead spider mites that neem is more of a preventative.............

I have fought spider mites in the past every thing on the shelfs, i mean from neem oil to DR Doom and then i found Azatrol (Azamax stronger) and POW . i have no more worries. What i do is mix Organicide (organic ) and Azatrol. The Organicide kills most, then the Azatrol takes out the rest and the hatching.

For my grows it was easy.. because they are smaller indoor plants (vs out door trees) and thereby easier to inspect and get every inch..

And of course I watched them daily so I caught them before it was critical infestation..

My method for removing spider mites completely from the plant it's self is to terrorize them with simple cold water.. they HATE IT.. (often I am convinced neem is just working much the same way, drowning them, regardless of it's ablity to repel them as well)..

If you only have a few smaller plants.. take em into the shower/bath and get a spray bottle with water and drench the darn thing (it rains on buds outside too, me myself I use a blow drier set on no heat to get the water under control afterwards..

Anyway.. pure simple water.. drown their silly asses.. the plant will be dripping wet.. that is the point.. UNDER the leaves.. thats where you want to cover every inch.. just spray spray spray.. till they are drenched and dripping.. shake off water, blow em reasonably dry enough. (the whole process takes about 20 minutes once you get it down)..

While the plants are out of your closet/tent whatever, spray Raids House and Garden (about 3-4 bucks at most grocers this time of year) spray in the room and shut the door while your doing your plants.. the spray is very effective at killing all mites in the cracks and crevices yet it wont harm your plants when you put them back in,.

Do the same thing the next day..

And the next

And the next..

For a week strait.. And a week is actually over kill but you want to do overkill.

I've done this up to a week before harvest.. again, just gently shake water off buds and air blow them reasonably then get them back in a warm room under lights and I haven't had any issues with mold or rot..

Pure simple water.. mites drown easy.. you can stop damage from progressing IMMEDIATELY.. the live mites drown extremely easy..

But there will be eggs.. this is why you do it for a week in a row.. after a week you have drowned all the big guys the first day, second and third day just getting any errant ones that escaped the wrath.. and by the 4th day any hatching don't stand a chance.. after a week of this mites are either dead or have figured this environment sucks and they are out of there.

I've done this time and time again, perfect results.. no chemicals zero.. no neem (some strains I used to have actually seemed to resent the neem once they get pocked up from mite bites.. ) which 'some say' can effect taste.

Only chemicals are the plant friendly raid house and garden spray, and I always aired out the room a few minutes before putting th plants back in,.. and it only takes a very little spray.. to fume up a small space and get into cracks and crevices and even lights and fixtures, anywhere they may be hiding out..

Incidentally, out doors, a garden hose comes out the mites go running, if you haven't started flowering yet it is EASY to chase mites away outside with a hose and water..

They simply hate being wet and drown incredibly easy. And will try and get the hell out and relocate if they decide it is a sucky place to try and reproduce..

Water water water.. you can kill em dead and stop them this very day.. with simple water.. you can kill all their eggs by following up doing the same thing for a week.

After the first 2 days it is easy and quick and you hardly need any water.. the first two days, DRENCH em..

That's my story.. take it or leave it.. it's just what I do, and the way I do it has always been 100 percent effective.. 'for me'.

Everyone else's mileage may vary.

Whatever you do, hit em as early as possible.. inspect your plants daily.. always if possible.. I never understand when people get an infestation indoors and say 'I just found them' and the plants are crawling with them.. that should never happen if you maintain them daily.. Not to be preachy or bitchy.. just check em daily even when there is no problems.. it's key to control IMO..


Hope that helps someone.. or doesn't hurt some one if they try it and they get mold or rot.. blow em mostly dry gently.. it takes some hands on.. sprays are easier.. BUT no chemicals is divine and worth the effort 'for me'.

That's POISON bro. I had those and yeah sure they work, but that stuff gets into the plant. It says right on the back of the package to not be in the room for any lenth of time and there more so used for Cabins and Boats when stored. There not safe for you at all. Soap n Water with a little rubbing alchol and preventitive maintance goes far..... Also if you can run A/C into the room. They will not reproduce as fast.

Poison? Really? Have you done the research on Dichlorvos (active ingredient of No Pest Strips)? Or is it that your just spouting off what you heard? It is used on all kinds of the foods we eat. It also is used in many places where your food is stored. Please read the research that I have done here

I have had 2 people I know get mad spider mite infestations, both were recommended these by 2 different sources, one put 2 of these in a 6x6 room, the other 2 in a 6x10 room, mites were gone in days... I was totally amazed, i keep 1 in my veg room & 1 in my flowering room just as a precaution, and havent had any bug problems.

I doubt subcool hangs out in his grow room if he hangs those things up. Most of us grow in our houses. Don't use Hot Shot No Pest Strips. Read the label!

It depends if you occupy the room or not. I agree if you are growing in a closet or in a room you will be exposed for more than 4 hours a day then maybe it's a bad idea for you, but to say that they are as bad as your making it out to be is laughable. Do some more research on Dichlorvos. Did you realize that your probably eating foods that have sat in rooms with Dichlorvos in them? They are used in food storage facilities all the time. Please do some research. They are not nearly as bad as your making them out to be. Plus all the research that shows they are Cancer causing are very very weak as well as the supposed residue it leaves.I've researched this very extensively and all the arguments against them are weak at best. Dude, I don't care about other registered uses of Dichlorvos; I'm pretty damn sure those uses are applied according to the pesticide registration label. The reason those instructions are on the package is to save you from your ignorance. Yes, Hot Shot Strips work in tents and closets pretty good but under HID lighting in an enclosed space you are going to get a massive face full of Dichlorvos every time you tend to your grow.

I've used Hot Shot Strips, Avid (my favorite), insecticidal soap (laughable), Floramite (excellent), pyrethrin foggers (laughable, again). This summer I have no mites at all. My only explanation is that I began using a silica supplement in my reservoir (Dyna-gro Protekt). Protekt is great for stabilizing pH in the res, but it also claims to deposit mineral silica in plant cell walls making them more resistant to piercing, sucking insects. I took that with a grain of salt and used Protekt for its other properties. But I cannot deny that I have zero mites in my grow this summer, and usually by now I have to go to war with them like everyone else, but not this year. YMMV

i've seen you can buy mantis eggs... there's like 200 of the fuckers per pod.. a couple of those might do the trick.. never used them myself though...

Do you not vent your room? If your venting your room the amount of Dichlorvos is minimal. Even in small spaces. Your exchanging too much air for it to be harmful. Those directions your referring to are for areas that are not well ventilated (garages/boats/storage facilities). Again do some research my friend. You are out of your element.

Close, one of these..... a couple gallons of water and a thimble full of purespray green ( nothing but petroleum oil) and those fucking mites are history, you may not get them all but you'll keep them very very controlled. I'm trying a new product by NPK ind.called mighty wash, initial testing with nothing but a spray bottle looks good, I fill the atomist up with this stuff and its easier than burning the place down....well maybe not easier but safer. Other than that I have no answers to your questions OP.

Sure. You go make up your own directions for use. I'm sure your extensive testing has determined the safety of novel uses not described by the manufacturer. Hey, everybody! Apparently you didn't do your research and are just salty. To each his own.

And BTW I do not have spider mites either. Haven't had to bother with them since I added No Pest Strips.

Instead of believing everything you read you need to take the time to investigate things for yourself. I took the time to find out the active ingredient in the NPS and what it is used for and what effects it has on humans and plants. Then I made a choice whether or not it was right for me. I didn't just be a good boy and follow directions that the Government (who tells NPS what kind of directions/warnings to put on label) gave me. I am no puppy dog sir. I do the research and make my own opinions. If I wanted to be a puppy dog I would of believed all the lies about drugs I learned from D.A.R.E.(Government funded program). I chose to make my own choices, not let someone tell me my choices. Do the research yourself and certainly don't depend on the government to do it for you. Wait that's right the Fed's think MJ is schedule 1 drug and that it has no medicinal uses (from their research)...but they have no problem pumping you full of opiates for medicinal purposes...do you believe that bullshit too?
