anyone add yeast to there soil and/or worm bin? i know its in bokashi and everyone seems to be liking that in there soil mix. thinking the extra fungi can help with breakdown and add food source for other microbes.

The yeast in bokashi is from the milk when fermented for lab. Teraganix adds yeasts that they culture for their em1 when fermented. No yeast is added directly to bokashi.

In other cases. Yeasts are only added to some ferments to speed up ferment time. That's for ferments that would normally take 3 months or longer to ferment.

Bokashi alone produces plenty of mycelium fungi. You don't want to over do it. You want a balance of fungi and bacteria. When you add bokashi you need to add a carbon source like compost or worm castings to maintain the balance.

I brew beer. The brewing process produces more yeast and I put that in my compost pile along with the spent grains. It needs to compost before being added to soil.

The spent grains also do really well as worm food, another way to compost them.

If you haven't yet, starting a worm bin should be a top priority for any organic growing.

Oh yea, i got worms. Once they really get going, you can add them to everything. Got them in my soil thats cooking. They even stay alive the whole grow in my pots, making castings th whole time and they break down the root ball quicker for reusing soil.
