Yellow leaves for new grower

Hi I am a new grower and I have a plant that is about 4 to 5 tall. I have the picture in my post. I was told to tie down the limbs so sun can get close to the stalk and it would thicken up. So I did that 3 or 4 days ago.
Today I went out to look at it and the bottom leaves have yellowed and are dying!

I live in Alabama humidity is not a problem. Sun shines hot ever day however it has been raining everyday for about 5 days or so.

My plant has not flowered at all! I am still not sure if it is a male or female. I have clipped the top.

What do I do now. Please Help.

just a few thoughts. first your plant looks healthy! you may have a nitrogen def, , w/ all the rain you've had, you just had a natural flush of your plant. sometimes when your plant is concentrating on developing new grow, the lower leaves tend to die off. i would raise the pot off the ground ecspecialy w/ the amount of rain you say you've been having to make sure you are getting good drainage. the last picture looks like a bug eating your plant. check it carefully and if is bugs gets some pre mixed neem oil, most garden centers sell it. spray it down a couple hours after dark. WARNING; do not spray it in the morning or when the sun hits it before it has a chance to dry!!! nice plant dude

Well I don't know everything, but tying the stalks down is supposed to get the sun to the main stalk? Never heard of such a thing, cut them babies loose. Over watering will def cause yellowing and necrosis, since youve had alot of rain i would suspect that. No biggie the plant can lose considerably more and still have a good harvest.

OK I went outside and made sure the drain holes on the bottom are open good for draining. I also sat the plant up on two cinder block (there are side by side so it would be big enough that they would not fall off) I did not see any mites or bugs. There are some more yellowing leaves and there is some yellow ugly substance on the very bottom of the stalk.
