Yes, I stabbed my stalk with a wooden skewer

Hey everyone, I'm almost at 8 weeks of flower. On day 54 I was bored and wanted to put stress on my plant. I decided to stab the stem with a knife then stick a skewer in it after hearing about this stem splitting technique. If this technique really been around for so long and used across the world then count me in . This is on the day of stabbing. I'm not counting on this to give me mind blowing results but I thought it would be a fun experiment.

I know it's risky business stressing the plant at this stage but it actually took it very well and showed no signs of slowing growth. It actually looked bigger the next day! I'm not sure if this was all because of the stem splitting but I'm glad I tried this experiment. This plant also responded well to supercropping in early flower. Here's what one of the buds looked like today.

Anyways, I'm planning on taking out the skewer at the end of week 8. I'll post updates.

Can’t believe no ones mentioned Gatorade for that fruity sweet flavour.

On a serious note I’m sure there is something to stressing plants. Nature isn’t too kind herself. Only way to test is by labs monitoring thc/terpenes etc.

It’s your plant do as u will :)
Gatorade? That's old school. Powerade is what the big boys are using these days. If you really want to give your plants a boost then I suggest one of the Monster or Rockstar fruit flavored drinks. They have the energy needed to make the buds really swell.

I've been looking at the Full Throttle line. The Blue Agave sounds like a winner but the citrus sounds tasty as well. Plus it has a cool sounding name and a fancy looking logo. It has to be good.

As promised, here is an update after 1 week of being impaled. I took the skewer out and now it's chillin.

And here is a picture of the same bud from the OP.

So if anybody was curious about stem splitting, there you go! Plant did not slow down or get infected. Would I do it again? Maybe, if I'm bored again and the plant is in good shape . Chopping day is next week!

Plant: bag seed gelato (3 ft. tall)
Light: 172w full spectrum LED
Soil: FFOF (3 gallon pot)
Nutrients: big bloom, tiger bloom

Yay they survived! So what exactly was the point of stabbing them?

Splitting Stems: Should You Take A Knife To Your Cannabis Plant?

Taking a knife to your cannabis plants a few days before harvest seems pretty counterintuitive. However, many growers say stem splitting can produce bigger yields and more trichomes for tastier, more potent bud. Read on to learn more.

Stem splitting is a very aggressive grow technique that’s generating a lot of discussion in the cannabis cultivation community. Those in favour of this technique argue that it stresses the plant in a beneficial way, forcing it to take up more nutrients and produce bigger, more potent buds. Could this be true? Keep reading to find out.
THE THEORY BEHIND STEM SPLITTING
Most grow techniques that involve stress work on the same principles; stressing a cannabis plant encourages it to take up more nutrients, which in turn results in more vegetative growth and heavier harvests.
The theory behind stem splitting is no different. However, it’s a lot more controversial than other high-stress techniques such as topping, fimming, or super cropping. After all, taking a knife to the stems of your flowering cannabis plants is pretty hardcore.
Nonetheless, many growers suggest stem splitting can produce bigger, denser buds and a higher concentration of trichomes. Trichomes actually serve to protect the cannabis plant against pests, environmental factors, and disease. Growers believe that the stress induced by splitting your plants at the end of their flowering cycle pushes them to produce more trichomes just in time for harvest.

You have to wonder why the plants don't inherently have a built-in mechanism to split their own main stalk if it provides such benefits...

Its not about the flavor, its all about the ELECTROLYTES! Its what the plants CRAVE!

The one thing about stem splitting that does make sense to me is doing it in an outdoor setting where you have high humidity. Cut the plants main water supply but keep it alive.
