‘It was horrific’: Videos show players, families at little league game take cover after gunshots ring out
Harrowing footage from a little league baseball game in North Carolina shows 7- and 8-year-old players hit the ground after gunfire rings out nearby.

The scary situation unfolded Sunday morning at an all-star little league tournament in Wilson, according to a news release from Wilson police.

The incident was initially reported as an “active shooter” situation, but police later told Nexstar’s WNCN that was not the case. No one at the game was intentionally targeted, police added.

Footage from the game showed players and coaches hitting the ground. Another video shared with WNCN showed chaos in the stands as children and their families tried to take cover.

“Parents couldn’t find their kids, kids couldn’t find their parents,” recalled Lindsey Stephenson, whose son plays on one of the teams.

Bull City Little League Assistant Coach Chris Breslin didn’t even hear the gunshots, but rather a noise he believed to be the bullets flying through the air.

“I didn’t hear bangs, I just heard like whizzes,” Breslin explained. “It seemed like right by my head. Three in quick succession.”

In another video sent to WNCN, Breslin is seen standing next to a player, and seconds later dropping to the ground.

He Army-crawled to get on top of the player, shielding him from any more gunfire.

“It was horrific. When I hit the ground, I remember thinking, this is the worst possible thing,” he said. “[The player] was so scared. He kept saying, ‘I don’t want to play baseball. Is the bad man coming? I’m scared’ … It was terrible.”

No one was injured, but parents were terrified.

Police later found three bullets in the area, including one in the outfield and one that struck a car in the parking area.

Officials, meanwhile, are still searching for the person, or people, responsible.

“Two vehicles were identified as potentially being involved in the incident during the initial investigation. The Wilson Police Department located those vehicles yesterday and spoke to the occupants, who were attendees at the game,” Wilson police said in a release.

The Wilson Police Department is encouraging anyone with information to contact the department at 252-399-2323, or to call Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.

Attendees at the game told WNCN they were terrified knowing how vulnerable they were.

“There you are, with all these kids out there. … You don’t know where to go. You don’t know where to turn to. You don’t know what to do,” said Missy Rhoads, who was supporting the Rutherford team. “You are on an open field and you’re just sitting ducks.”

“I never thought that an 8-year-old’s baseball game is where I thought I’d be risking the life of my husband and son,” added Stephenson. “That thought never crossed my mind until [Sunday].”

Some parents are now concerned about whether local police would be prepared if a similar incident happens in the future.

“I expecting swarms of officers and sheriff’s deputies, and every man they had coming to the field. You saw one car here, one car there,” Stephenson said.

A few teams, including one of the teams playing Sunday morning, have pulled out of the remainder of the tournament.

Is it that you sure wish people would shoot some grownups so maybe more can happen than thoughts and prayers.

It needs to have a personal impact for them.
I want to make clear that i'm not wishing that anyone in particular be killed....But if say Mitch McConnell's grandkid got killed in a school shooting, i bet we'd start to see some meaningful legislation. If ted cruz's kid was killed in a shooting at a theme park, i'm curious what his response would be? Would marginal traitor queen think it was a false flag if her kids were killed while attending a parade?
i would like it to strike home for more than one of them, i just don't want to wish death on children already carrying the handicap of being related to those fucks.

"While many European countries have seen a decline in gun homicides, Sweden’s number of deadly shootings has increased each year since 2005"

I'd suggest NZ but they don't allow old fucks like us to stay much longer than a vacation.

I think it's amazing that one citizen, armed citizen, did what 20 well armed police couldn't do at the school. He took out a shooter that would have e killed many, by taking him out. At the mall. Props to that dude.

It would have been more amazing IMO is radicalized idiots with guns didn't have such easy access to murder so many people that the 'good guy with a gun' narrative is what people focus on in the rare occasion that it happens.

just sad that he had the opportunity to be a "hero"....there should be no need for heroes during a trip to the mall, or church, or the grocery store, and the only heroes that should be needed in a public school are exceptional teachers

Nearly one in three Americans say it may soon be necessary to take up arms against the government
A majority of Americans say the U.S. government is corrupt and almost a third say it may soon be necessary to take up arms against it, according to a new poll from the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics.

Two-thirds of Republicans and independents say the government is “corrupt and rigged against everyday people like me,” according to the poll, compared to 51 percent of liberal voters.

Twenty-eight percent of all voters, including 37 percent of gun owners, agreed “it may be necessary at some point soon for citizens to take up arms against the government,” a view held by around 35 percent of Republicans and around 35 percent of Independents. One in five Democrats concurred.

The findings come after a House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riots at the U.S. Capitol wrapped up its final hearing for the summer, seeking to place former President Trump at the heart of efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The panel also said Trump readily accepted and even encouraged the attack from his supporters, watching violence play out on television for nearly three hours before finally making a statement telling them to go home.

Despite the hearings, Trump still enjoys broad support among Republicans, who are more concerned about inflation, education and crime than they are about Jan. 6.

About 56 percent of Americans say elections are fair and accurate, but that number falls to 33 percent among Republicans, according to the Chicago University poll.

The division between conservatives and liberals across the country is only growing, the poll shows, and a quarter of Americans say they have lost friends over politics.

More than 70 percent of Republicans and more than 70 percent of Democrats both agree the other side “are generally bullies who want to impose their political beliefs on those who disagree.”

And half of all Americans believe the other side is misinformed about politics because of where they get their information and news, the poll found.

The University of Chicago-Public Opinion Strategies-Benenson Strategy Group poll was conducted May 19 to May 23 among 1,000 registered voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.53 percentage points.

And to think, a few decades ago that was all a reality, today, its a close your eyes and pray it doesn't happen today. Or even just if it does, it's the only one today.

Instead of locking ones doors now when you go outside, you lock your safety on the [insert brand here] ,xxx, [insert, .9- 50 Here]. I suggest from my minimal knowledge, a .380, either a Sig or Berreta. They say least chance of jamming. Small, compact, easily hidden, stopping power.
All ya need.
Now before the antis say, 'why you need to conceal it easily?'
You're kidnapped, carjacking, robbed, so many situations that the bad guy not knowing you have a firearm will save your life. And possibly your lovers, your kids, your wife, a loved one.
I'd like to think under duress that I would be competent enough to act to save my loved ones. For in my mind not under duress, I feel I would slay anyone that tried to bring harm to say, my grandkids.
My inner Ninja is no joke.
There should ' be no need ' for these acts, however, we seem to need them more and more with each passing frigging hour.
That said, I don't carry a piece. I carry a blade. Or two. Or three, depending on environment, (which usually depends mostly on the amount of cash in the room.)
As a medium stakes gambler, somehow it just makes me feel safer.
