You got your Sativa and you got Indica

I’ve read a few things about spotting the difference but I’ve heard of crosses or mixing and I was interested to hear if anybody had experience with noticing the differences.

It all started with the landrace strains, that proliferated in isolated areas with minimal human interaction. Eventually they became cultivated over the last few thousand years and eventually were given names based on their locale: Acapulco, Columbia, Jamaican, Afghani, etc. These base strains became manipulated in the last hundred years or so to produce third generation (and hybrid) strains, coming up in the 80s. These strains became even further modified in the last 35 ish years to produce further hybridization. These days, it’s harder to find pure or close to pure landrace strains, as they often have personality traits we don’t find desirable as a society. Personally, I love me a strong sided Sativa hybrid. But because of mass production and the trending cultural wave of cannabis, we are creating new strains that mix the old genetics so many times, we have very different expressions of the genes that have been passed on over generations of breeding.

Each plant type has a different balance of cannibinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and other organic components, that account for the differences in perceived effects. Generally a Sativa is known as a head high, affecting energy positively often while an Indica was known to lend a sedative, euphoric or other physical sensations. They have been bred so many times that there are various expressions of chemicals causing a different high in most hybrids. Modulated by dosage, chemical balance, user experience and tolerance.

Haven't read any literature on the subject but I try to pay attention to the details of the F1 cannabis plants in my garden of weeden. Started with 7 plants, now 5.

As much as I try to the keep all the variables controlled, the aspect of my garden and the variation from seed create a challenge. Did you @Deadhead13 read anything good about the differences?

I’ve just been reading on the difference in the looks of both leaves and plants. I’ve just wondered with hybrids, do folks usually look for things that indicate more of one or the other.

Its generally pretty clear if its indica or sativa leaning, as soon as you know what a indica looks like and what a sativa looks like as soon as you see a hybrid you can see what side it leans more to.

I have had hybrids that looked way more indica with fat leaf blades with rounded serrations when they were young (from seed) but as they matured they leaned more towards sativa with thinner leaf blades and pointier serrations. Hybrids can be weird and most everything nowdays is a hybrid.

C’mon, this is for fun, right? If this weren’t a “newbie” forum I could see what you are indicating, that I’m asking dumb questions. I’m just trying to learn and spark discussion, and hopefully be cool with everybody.

I'm being cool with you, I'm kinda trying to say that experiance and time will be your friend on this. I could tell you everything you need to know, but until you have done it a few times it wont really mean anything to you and you'll forget everything I've said by then anyways.

So I repeat what's I've already said.. learn what a indica looks like. Learn what a sativa looks like. When you see a hybrid you'll be able to hopefully see what one it more leans toward.

My apologies @growingjustforfun, there are so many jabs thrown on the forums that I guess I’m always looking for it.

Generally if people are talking to you and giving you any information just glean what you can even through the insults.
We arnt kind politically correct business men. We are generally speaking blunt people who grow weed. I've been doing this 10 years an a lot of others around here have been doing it the same or longer. We may have a attitude but I'm sure that if you think about who the people are in life you'll see why people talk how they do

Most folks keep your noob status in mind, so they are not total dicks. Except for the ones that are, and you will learn to ignore them. Just like in real life.

Being able to say what u think is a good thing. Sure sometimes it may hurt someone's feeling or your own feelings may take a hit but that's the same in real life right?
Vast majority of people on this site are awesome and if I happen to disagree with someone and get into a massive debate/argument with them on one subject it does not mean I wont be aggressively agreeing with them on another viewpoint.
There is also a small minority of racists fuckwits, just like in real life. They deserve all the shit that gets slung at them, just like in real life.
