Your Christmas..?

I remember that on the afternoon of Christmas eve we kids would be BANISHED on pain of unspecified pain from the downstairs of the house. During this time the Christ-child (the central European franchiseholder for Santa) would appear, but only if no children were there to break the magic!

During that time we might or might not hear the sounds of a tree being schlepped in, decorated in a maternal whirlwind, and the soft telltale of wrapped parcels being placed. Remarkably i never heard the sounds of the Christ-child uttering Viennese curses in my parents' voice.

Money solves little and makes the undeserving feel good. Go to any nursing home and just start visiting someone who has no one. Ask for someone who isn't mentally clear. They will think you are their family. Just go sit with them and bring them things they need. Do for them. Do this on a schedule. Become the family they need. Pick the dirty, unwashed and unloved, give to them.

Money is simple, doing is hard.
I had to like this several times.

hope this holiday season is treating you well annie.

Thank you! It's turning out wonderfully! I went with the hub when he got his hair done and he spoke with the hair dresser and between them they fixed me up :) I'm now presentable and she understands me and from here on out I think it's going to be better. She now knows to call the hub if there's something that doesn't make sense so he can translate.

This is the first year, in 41 years, I will be completely 'home' for christmas, LOL! I feel so odd. Back in my youth I was always on surgery call and almost always in house. This is a bad time of year for accidents. So we tried to get the census down by 12/1-12/15 then we filled the house by New Years. After the accident when I went back it was to engineering. My kids were grown and gone and I took server call on the holidays and there was always code to be written.

Son arrives tomorrow :) neither of us have code or much work...... it will be an interesting week. He's here till Friday so I won't be here much between tomorrow night and Friday :) I'm going to teach him how to make the turkey and my dressing. It's time and I hope we can speak.

Bless you all :)

gioua how long does it usually take for them to find the first one? What if they find someone else's gift? Sounds more like an easter egg hunt LOL
each gift is hidden in their rooms someplace generally not too hidden.. unless I do it.. usually on Christmas eve they check through out the day.. there is no set time so.... we usually have it done by about 2pm..

My wife does this and this year started bringing our daughter. They also volunteered at a food pantry handing out boxes of nonperishable food items to the less fortunate.

My daughter saw a few people living out of their cars, really gave her an eye opener.

Years ago when I was a little guy my old man fucked up Christmas real bad one year. Broken chairs, lived with the neighbors and opened presents there for a couple days, came back dad was gone for the next 13 years. For years after that I kinda hated Xmas. I wasn't an anti holiday person, but when it came around I couldn't help but harp on the things I witnessed that morning. It sounds corny but the girl I've been goin with for a bit now got me back in the spirit. She LOVES this holiday..so I had to come around. Now I look forward to popping corn and stringing it with cranberries around the tree. Our tree ain't all that..just popcorn and white lights, but every night it's up we end up chillin with no lights on but the tree talking about how lucky we are. And watchin football!!

That's awful cute. I'm glad you're getting a chance to experience the nice part of the holiday. Sounds like you deserve it. :-)

Merry Christmas to all :) I actually just got in from NYC...went to see the rockettes today for the first time. Beautiful dancers, sweet costumes and an awesome light show complete with some 3D interludes. It was quite a trip :D Didn't really feel like Christmas though, got up to 67 degrees

My Christmas will be a very simple day. No gifts, not really, just something simple and maybe something useful. I don't miss the crowds and quite frankly it doesn't feel like Christmas down here. I'll start the day by making eggs with corned beef hash and later a ham dinner.

We'll probably watch Netflix's series Lilyhammer with the subtitles turned on since we don't speak nor understand Norwegian. We watched the first 16 episodes usually buzzed and didn't think to use subtitles, so now it might well be a Lilyhammer marathon day with subtitles. I absolutely love Steve Van Zandt in this role.

So Christmas this year is just me and my beloved.
