No idea about the speckling, but as far as that gross taste I've had success with mixing listerene and water half and half and flushing it with that... Just a tip, sea salt and hot water works almost as well with no foul side effects. Favorite method I've found so far! Happy Flying!!

I boil my pipes to clean them prior to a salt flush. the key thing is to keep them COMPLETELY submerged, like, you want 2-3 inches of water above the top, and to let them cool completely in the water before touching them. Works great w/ bubblers. And hot water from the tap wont get hot enough to damage it. I will tell you I was hella paranoid the first time i did it though 
And I would say residue reacting to the rubbing alcohol could be the cause of the speckling, but im not for sure on that...

What percentage ISO are you using? you want it atleast in the 90's percentage wise. The taste you just need to keep rinsing a few times and you should be good. Every once in awhile i use "cascade with dawn crystals" dishwashing detergent powder. A box of this is like 3 dollars and will outlive you. Also yes, those spots are in fact due to your tapwater being shitty, the only way to avoid that is too used distilled water and just use said cascade powder abunch. Yes it costs money but your bong will be beautiful and will taste and smell WAY better.

I heat the iso up until it starts to have lots of little bubbles and then I pour it into the top of the peice. in 30 seconds it is as clean as it was the first day that I bought it. be careful if you are doing this with an open flame. I have an electric stove so I dont worry to much. you can do it in the microwave...but only go ten seconds at a time or the door will blow open cause of the pressure. that was some funny shit when that happend

You want to look for a higher percentage, I use 99% it works great, most people have a tough time finding 99 so they usually pick up around 91%. It will be right next to the 70% usually just a slightly smaller bottle and a little more expensive

I highly recommend buying The Grundge I have been using the same bottle for about a year. You just pour it into your piece, or submerge your piece in a cup like I do. Let it sit over night, Pour the grundge back into the container, leaving the nastiness at the bottom in the cup and rinse your piece with hot water and it comes out amazing! I also found that the grundge off makes it harder for res to build back up. It takes longer for my clear glass to turn yellow using the grundge compared to alcohol and salt.

you are not supposed to use rubbing alcohol, you are supposed to use isoprophyl. clean it with isoprophyl (not rubbing alcohol) and the taste will go away. rubbing alcohol coontains a lubricant additive... that's likely the thing you're tasting.

Isopropyl alcohol vapor is more dense than air and is highly flammable with a very wide combustible range. It should be kept away from heat and open flame. When mixed with air or other oxidizers it can explode through deflagration. Isopropyl alcohol has also been reported to form explosive peroxides.
Like many organic solvents, long term application to the skin can cause defatting.
so just standard iso is ok to use? Only when Iso is heated its dangerous?
Oh and ya sorry I meant Iso not rubbing alcohol.........but ya mine was 70%

yes although the chances of going blind from inhaling the vapors is slim , would that be a chance you are willing to take.
the explosive part is know from people trying to extract pure hash using the achalol method.

also i use 420cleaner and it cleans a 2ft bong 1min. no rush no shit. had to stop using rubbing alcohol cuz it stains glass and also weakens it. and i also use whats called REZ block jus a few dropps in bong,bubble,ask catch and res dont even get on glass, and taste is clean and smoth. we all need to upgrade to these new items made for exactly what we are doing.
