Are cars like the Tesla Model S the future?

And when the cops came through me and Dre stood next to a burned down house....with a can full of gas, and a hand full of matches, and we still wasn't found out...

No they are not. Not even close.

Dual clutch gearboxes don't have torque converters.

Dual clutch gear boxes are TWO SEPARATE MANUAL GEARBOXES controlled by a computer. Two separate clutches, one for odd gears, one for even gears. There is very little in common with an automatic transmission.

Hyundai doesn't make a dual-clutch. Neither do most manufacturers for any type of production vehicle.

It's pretty much limited to VW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, etc.

Launch control in most cars just makes the engine hold at a certain point, basically it's holding the clutch and gas, then dumping it (albeit in a controilled fashion). It knocks a substantial amount of time off of the 0-60 time.

dual clutch transmissions are automatic transmissions. they are not hydraulically controlled but they serve exactly the same function, to relieve the operator of the need to learn to use a clutch and select gears with thier brains and hands.

the little paddles make sense on a race car with a tiny cockpit, dangerously high speeds and bulky fire retardant suits. in your acura they are superflous gimmickry.

hyundai doesnt make dual clutch transmissions, but ricers do add paddle shifting transmissions to all manner of cars, including hyundais, hondas, toyotas and other shitbox economy cars. their love of paddle shifters is part of their douchery.

just like adding a dozen superfluous gauges to the instrument cluster, carbon fiber hoods with chrome doggets, ram air scoops and spurious "badging".

often the paddle shifters are attached to perfectly ordinary hydraulic automatic transmissions, and serve no purpose save to make the ricer feel like he is "2 Fast and 2 Furious" for automatic shifting, when in truth, most of them dont even know how to operate a synchronized manual transmission, much less an un-synchronized one.

when you see a hyundai with paddle shifters on the wheel, you can bet your bottom dollar you will also find an oversized chrome exhaust tip, R-Type badging, Holley or Edelbrock stickers, and "low profile, high performance" tyres attached to that Elantra.

also check the cup holder for red bull, or monster "energy" drinks.

lol....

Dual clutch and automatic are similar more in coincidence than purpose. Automatics are designed to make driving easier. Dual clutch gear boxes are performace based, and although DSG's also remove the use of the clutch pedal the 'point' wasn't to remove a pedal, but to make shifts faster. A lot of automatic tranmissions are slower than their manual counter parts, and often have fewer gears. Dual clutches often have more gears than manual tranmissions and are always faster shiting than manual boxes.

Can't shift gears in 0.05 seconds with an automatic.

But yeah, paddle shifters in most cars are stupid, unless you actually use it at the track and need to keep your hands on the wheel.

2012 Golf-R w DSG - 0-60 @ 5.7secs
2012 Golf-R w Manual transmission @ 6.5secs

0-60 in Under 3 secs.......not that I've ever done it on mine.

only computer maps the fuel.

Personally I like sequentials...I can launch then just keep pressure on the shifter and when the rpms are juuuuust right it will just slip into gear no clutch.

I miss the good old days when racing didn't have computer controls.

I am learning a lot guys keep it up.

all those listed track times presume a competent driver, who knows how to doubleclutch, knows his engine and gearbox, doesnt stall it out or overshoot his gearing and clunk it from 2nd into 5th.

real racing doesnt have computer controls, the driver runs his car, and isnt simply a navigator while the computers do the driving.

thats why i like rally racing, its not hours of boring engine noise while rednecks or effete euro-posuers turn left over and over and over.

You can manually change gears to effectively brake faster and partially accelerate through a turn. It wins the race but ruins your gears and engine. At least you keep your brakes.

Nascar is aight. I used to watch qualifying some in charlotte, to avoid the big crowds.....during an actual race its pretty funny to look under the bleachers and watch the shower of chicken bones, spilled beer and sundri litter..... short tracks are "funner" to watch.
Best circle track racing for me is speedway bikes, open wheel sprint cars next ;nascar distant third....if at all.

Supermoto, Ama outdoor nationals and FIM are my favorites, think they let cpus control fuel, they won't let aprillia run the v-twin which sucks reminds me of nascar not allowing the hemis.

I think computers are ruining motogp. Rally is pretty sick too that's my top choice for viewing in the car category.

i manually change gears all the time. it doesnt ruin my gears cuz i know how to shift.

Are you shifting from 6th to 5th going over 120 mph to let the engine slow you? That will immediately redline you. A professional racecar driver will do that to win the race. His mechanics love him. Even street racers are constantly fucking over their car. That's why they pick ricers. Easy for dumb ass 2 fast 2 furious to fix on their own cheaply. You often drive for pink slips?

on my bike i go from WAY TOO FAST to a stop by dropping from 5th to 4th to 3rd to 2nd to 1st before i ever touch the brakes.

otherwise your bike is shooting out from under your ass, or you go over the forks.

in my truck, on gravel or wetpatch, thats the only way to stop. using your brakes will put you off the road.

i dont race on the streets, thats for Ginches and wankers, but if i got an open stretch of road ill give my bike some gas. everybody likes to go fast.

ricers like imports, especially japanese imports cuz they are cheap, disposable, mommy and daddy paid for it, and their engines wind up tight, plus you can glue on shitloads of crappy aftermaket geegaws and claim your shit is super fast.

"Real racing" AKA F1 racing the craziest of the crazy, DO use computer asssited transmissions. They're 'semi-automatic' for a reason.

Watch these "real racecars" complete this part of a circuit compared to "real(er) racecars?"

It would be so absolutely retarded to use a manual transmission in F1 it's not even worth discussing. You'd literally be shifting 2-3 times per second some times.

NASCAR is different. There's no fast paced turns and zig zags, chicanes, s-turns, esse's, adelaide's, hairpins, etc., etc., etc., It's one giant left turn.
