Why do ALL the LED grows look so lame compared to HID?

My LED buds are denser than my 600 HPS buds. LED has a lot more red and deep red in the spectrum and I suspect that is why.

Buddha Tahoe OG under HPS. Not too shabby but the flavor is cooked out of it.

Same cutting under Red/White/Blue 2W LEDs. Nugs are same size but denser and frostier. This plant does not know the definition of larf.

Same cutting again flowered under 600 HPS and finished under LED. This is at 7 weeks.

Can you think of one non-obsolete application for 730nm other than grow lamp led?

HID has a purpose. It's street lights!
Church, if you had to maintain a legal plant count and wanted to grow the most bud possible in 1 year, what lighting would you choose?

Probably HPS. Just being honest.

If i was looking to experiment or for something fun to do, I'd use LEDs. Definitely not bashing on leds, I think they're really cool, but HPS are still the de facto conventional weed growing lamp. Unless you're already dialed in with leds and getting good results, going the led route is a risk.

that thread is linked in BSD's signature - it clearly states that he started his 2nd ever grow 2 momths ago. Even better, it's his 1st indoor grow. Everybody listen, because he's an expert at indoor lighting!
^^^ Wish I could give you more rep for this ^^^

I think the LED hater brigade found its way here today. I think they're lonely, and probably just need hugs.

Cfl took over hid?.....this clearly shows me that you have no idea wtf your talking about.

Growing outdoors is as old as mankind itself........again your an idiot

We have a good led community in here and enjoy growing this beautiful plant with all kinds of different light tech. Hid has flaws just like all other options, you choose one that best suits your current grow environment; leds have there place 100%.

Also last time I checked I can buy whatever I want with MY money,I don't question your investment in grow lighting? Why do you think your justified to do so to this led forum?=== makes you come off as a troll.

Life is to short to be an internet asshole

One huge advantage of LED's over HID is it's narrow band monochromatic nature being good for experiments and precise control.

Because of this, we're seeing a lot of people here use advanced techniques like using 730nm LED's to manipulate the phytochromes (Pfr and Pr). Even if leds don't replace HPS as the go to standard, there's stuff we'd have never learned (or will never learn) without monochromatic narrow band emitters.

Imo, the understanding of phytochromes is what will make an LED lamp good or bad given equal quality emitters.

If I lived in a state with reasonably electricity rates and a cooler climate, I'd be running HPS too. That said, California's electricity costs have skyrocketed recently, and it almost costs as much to grow your own with HID as it does to buy the over-priced dispensary crap. Everyone here (including the pros) are in the process of building greenhouses or switching to LED.

Thats been exactly what iv said 50 times this week. Leds work fine and have a purpose, but at the end of the year hid will win unless you are growing a lot of plants. If I had a warehouse grow id use led and do a ton of rooted clones sog style, led will beat hid in that set up and would save a ton of money in the long run. The govt will step in and shut down hid bulbs, sooner than later

I said a pound with a 1000 hid is easy with 4 plants with a 4 week veg. Plant count is important. So if you want to end the argument plant 8 seeds, after germ put 4 under led and 4 under hid, veg for 4 weeks and flower. Whoever yields most wins. Simple.
You must have missed what I said somehow dude. I said that all would be equal so I don't know how this isn't exactly what you wanted???

I am doing blue dream clones(beans would not be a true test because of pheno variation). 12 clones...6 under the apache's 4x4 and 6 under the hps's 4x4. They will all be vegged under the same light source and then separated for flower. A divider will be up to block cross over light. Top of the line LED vs top of the line HPS. Done!

And just for note about plant count...I am allowed 30 plants per 100sqft per rec...so I was using 1/5 my area and 1/2 the plant count with a 3 week veg. Not to mention my room mates is a patient and gives me their caregiver rights. As far as plants numbers and what not...I am not even close maximizing space or plant count. Just a medical grow for a couple patients.
But I get that not everyone has the freedom so less plants is nice. I think me doing 6 plants per light is reasonable considering that is them basic state law in CA per patient.

I have absolutely no problem with this statement, it describes the purpose led meets, doesnt compare it to hid, and says if things were different hed use hid. Bravo, all iv been saying

in jbones mind all strains yield the same and all strains should pull a 4 zips with 4 week veg... i don't know noobie logic i guess

With a 3 week veg that would be ideal, with a 6 week veg it would be pointless. Thats what I was saying

you really have no idea what youre talking about.......one month veg w four plants under a 6oo equals a pound ..... if you cant do that or get close you need to ask for help.......

I don't get the point of this thread. Some like LED lighting and some don't. What's the big deal? Use what you like.

That said I find LED technology fascinating, and I find HPS lighting to be the best use of my watts. That could change in time, but we are not there yet. When we are there with LED then the dispensaries will be first to embrace this.

Apaches may be the most expensive, but I wouldn't allude to them being the best LED solution out there. DIY builds will blow the pants off any pre-made panel out there, including all of RIU's big 3: Apache, A51, and Hans.

When did I say all strains yield 4 ozs? I said 4 oz plants are easy with a 600 or 1000 watt hid. 2 different things. If you cant pull 4 oz plants from a 1000 watt hid you shouldnt be growing

uuhhh have you ever grown before... more noob logic

do that with dr. grinspoon. I guarantee you won't get more than 2 zips between 4 plants. oir an old school ibl master kush. at most you will get 1-1.5 zips per plant. jbone evensaid all you need is indica doms. then the strains he uiuses are all sativa doms lol

its a weel known fact that staivas out yield indicas.
