I am not concerned about the algae. I am concerned that it is a side effect of over watering.

Yes, Hydroton can get algae too but it is almost impossible to over water using flood and drain with Hydroton. It eliminates one of many issues with growing.

Ok. A little over watered. I'll shuttup and agree, but only because you're right. RW is super good at holding water. Easiest of all mediums to overwater. The only time I use them is when I'm cloning. Even then i like to squeeze the shit out o 'em until they stop dripping before putting them to use.

Algae is common on rockwool, it is not normal.

If the surface of the rockwool is not drying out then the center of the rockwool is not drying out. So water without oxygen is trapped around the roots and fresh water with oxygen cannot get to them.

It is probably the most common mistake made and rockwool is not forgiving. I switched to the clay balls for that reason.

algae aint gonna hurt nuffin, but it will suck away N and Co2 that the plants could use, and algae doesnt produce any nuggs.

but i agree, a covering of hydroton would save money on nutes, and give more room for roots, and if youre goin for a flood table, it's a cheap and easy solution, plus they are re-usable

This thread could be great... alot of smart people on this section so would be cool to see plants grown by them. For example, uncle ben seems like an ass but he seems to be respected and knows how to grow a good plant...

If I were looking to dose a bit of nitrogen fast and quick I'd mix a batch of some FloraNovaGrow @ about 5ml per gallon. Failing that, Grow Big is fairly handy, mix it @ 6-7ml per gallon. Water like normal.

well i already have FF grow big at 6/4/4..i was using 1T per 5 gal..so another 1/2T? 5ml=1ts..i just didn't want to overdo can't take burn away for sure..i also saw that you recommend squeeze the starter..i didn't because they said not to as it interrrupts the air/water mix within the fibers..they just said to wait for it to become light before 1st water after starter.

replacement volume on a hugo is 65 ounces per day.

now i feed and mist 1x/day..i've seen where some people say they feed 3x/day..why would you do that?

also, how much longer do you think i should veg?
