Rippers came this morning

I come to this site A LOT for opinions and info on growing but just now finally created an account to post. Let me start off by saying we are fairly new to Michigan and still getting our feet wet with growing our own mmj. Last year we had a small greenhouse that got a late start with about 8 plants in it. They weren't spectacular, but damn they were pretty. Rippers came and took all of it but a plant and a half with 3 weeks to a month of flowering still to go. I blame it on our own ignorance. Dogs were inside. Didn't hear a thing. We assumed we were safe since nobody knew us or about our grow, or so we thought. This greenhouse is about 8 feet from our house btw. This year we have 2 greenhouses, his and mine. We have already fought so much and won against all types of attacks against our plants. An attempted theft when our plants were still in pots in veg, bugs, powdery mildew, and even a knock on the door from the state police with a compliance check. After all that, and TONS of hours of hard work, our plants are big, beautiful, and oh so stinky and so close to being done. Well it appears that somebody out there is trying to reap the benefits of all OUR hard work again this year. My old man, bless his heart, stays up every night babysitting these greenhouses, sometimes with help, sometimes by himself, and always with our 2 dogs and our pup in training. This morning, at about 3:15am, he heard voices. Then a rock got thrown at our fence, I'm assuming to test the dogs. My man shot off our 22 into the air and listened to them run away down our driveway, 3 of them he thinks. Last year they came through the woods. This year walked right up the damn driveway. I guess I have 2 reasons for posting our story.....1) To put it out there to let the rest of you know the rippers are out and so are their balls. Guard what you worked your asses off for. (This is Muskegon/Oceana county area btw.) 2) I'm looking for any advice on what more we can do, within the limits of the law, to keep these scum sucking thieving bastards from getting us again. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

get your self some Driveway alarm motion detectors and cover your area with them...thats what I use...I have them around the area and in the greenhouse....best money spent...it will go off on a animal like a rabbit..but who cares its doing its job...I have 8 of them...in my green house and the whole perimeter of the yard all access routes...I live in a very rural area on a mountain so i do get animals tripping them off....as soon as the alarms rings the dogs are at the door ready to go...lol...here is a link to the alarms i speak of..its a must have item trust me..will save your crop...

http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=driveway alarm

they have a 400 foot range and they do work at 200 feet as i have some 200 feet away ..make sure you get all the same channels....its on the box what channel they are...if you have a HF close go there and get them..remember SAME Channels...

Driveway alarms as mentioned are good. I have 2 but the damn birds make them go off a bunch always waking me up. Oh well.

Just straight up putting a tent up and camping with the dogs would be good to, I will probably do that coming up soon.

Also, a trip wire with bells attached to it. Just get some 2 foot rebar and hammer it about 12-14 inches into the ground around the perimeter of your plants. Get some thin wire (preferably black or a different color than aluminum - it show up to much) and string it around the rebar. Then attach cow bells to it & spray paint it all black so no one can see it at night. Will make a ton of noise and will most likely trip them if they try to get to your girls.

Only thing I worry about right now is my daughter's X. He is only a teenager but smokes everyday and has no money. He does know I have security cameras all over so maybe he wouldn't be stupid enough to try and steal any. Plus they are in 21" pots so no way walking away with them unless they were cut. I have a fully fenced in yard and no way of getting in front the sides or back unless from a neighbors yard.

You gotta be careful with guns, know your state laws. They can get you caught up in a legal battle that will make the value of your plants look small. I have one for protection from mountain lions and bears while camping out by my gh but would have to be in serious fear for my life to use it on a human being. Should a break in occur while I am in my house, I wouldn't even think of going out with my gun because it could be argued that I chose to put myself in a life threatening situation. Perhaps a non-lethal lode of salt or frozen paint balls would be better.

In addition to driveway alarms, you can get wireless intercom devices that allow you to communicate to your thiefs that your gun is loaded and the police are on the way, since you are growing legally. You can do this from the safety of your home. You can also put GPS tagging devices in your pots if they are small enough and you think they could get taken with the plants. Sounds like your man would have the balls to go bring them back!

Just leave the driveway alarms out where the thieves can hear them go off...like a car alarm....

LOL yes he has the balls and the gun is there to do just what was done last night, make the intruders aware that there is one locked and loaded on the property. He does have a loaded paintball gun at the ready as well.

Get some inferred motion sensitive cameras and set them up around your property. You can get one with a DVR for around 100$, and you can set an alarm to send you texts or whatever when they are tripped.

You can do that, but have them go off in the house as well. A daring thief will wait to see if anyone is responding to the alarms going off. You have to get an extra alert receiving device to do this, but worth it.

always encourage people to make themselves known. he should've yelled "be here tomorrow too" or something to let them know this yard is patrolled well, and will be a PITA to try to steal from.

they'll likely be back, i wish you the best of luck.

i like to think there's a special place in hell for rippers.. like Hitler's in 'little nicky' ;)
