First.. Post your land. (This ups the charge automatically in most states)
Second... Defend your land. With driveway alarms, cameras and sound.
Third... Posting of said land limits the owners responsibility. Third ring of defence (do it so animals don't get hurt, like the inside perimiter of greenhouse) boards with nails sticking up.
Fourth.. Let your presence be known...!!
Fith... If all else fails.... Have a big hole dug.... An agressive thief is a danger to all free men. Thier worst mistake being, they never tell anyone what they are doing till its done..

I don't know what your local laws are on self defense, however shooting at common trespassers will get you in a lot of trouble in many places..(except Texas) as noted. and if by shooting at them, they feared for their lives, they have the right to use deadly force to defend themselves...
Simple solution place a knife In there hand or hands random ones 1 pocket knife 1 kitchen knife and scissors after you shoot then they were on your property with knives. you feared for your life so you did what you felt appropriate to disarm the crazed men. It would be believe able esp if they were trting to cut your garden down...

Get the driveway sensors and play madden all night. Each game is around 45 min. 5/6 games a night with a few cups of coffee or chocolate covered coffee beans and u will be up and alert. Just have that bat and running shoes tied up. Here in MI you can't have a gun. BUT YOU NEIGHBORS CAN! Give them a few oz's each and keep everybody happy.

Haha hell yeah!
Did they keep you or just say they'll get someone else hah
They went with a whole other box. I couldn't honestly live with myself if I were to take part in a bullshit system like that. 99% of the people selected you could just tell they were strait laced homebodies. And never had to deal with the system. I'm just carefull as all Fuck and probably lucky as hell all things considered. Been thrown into questioning a time or 3. That was way back in my early 20s though. Used a silver tongue as well which led em back to the drawing board. Then I wisened up and educated myself to my rights And everything that goes with it. Not trying to hijack OPs thread though.
.I suggest driveway alarms. Also straiten out 3 prong treble fishing hooks and tie em to stalks. If they pull a fast snatch and grab they'll regret it when they have to have those things cut out. Also straiten them out like caltrops if you want to bring on the pain. They won't be running that's for sure. Get driveway alarms for sure. There's only one way to fix a thief. Catch and release does little from what I've seen. They'll just see it as another case of "I got away with it" "Got caught but got away with it" I've maimed the shit out of a thief and got out of it Scott free with just a nice twist on "what happened here" It was then a thieve's word VS the person who was living where they were tresspassing. He was conning right for me goes a long way.

local or federal leo?
Local LEO check of a friend's grow. After they concluded he was compliant he asked a few questions about legalities. The officer in charge told him he could have guns in the house and on the property, just not in the greenhouse itself.

In most places in America, you have the right to defend yourself by as much force 'as necessary'. There is an escalating scale with deadly force being at the top. Firing shots automaticly takes it to the top. Anyone around you is now in fear for their lives and can legally use deadly force against you...you had no legal right to start shooting at a trespasser. Tresspassing in itself is not a deadly threat...
The trespassers were not shot at. I showed my old man this thread and corrected me about him shooting a warning shot in the air. He told me he shot down, as in at the ground. Just a warning shot to make them aware of the gun. As for the neighbors, we live in a rural area. The closest one to the west shoots off guns several times a week. At what? Don't know, don't care. Neighbor to the east is the likely suspect of our early summer attempted break-in of our potted plants in veg. So if they're in fear for their lives I don't know that that's such a bad thing.

We have about 10 Private Property and 4 Beware of Dog signs posted, on the perimeters or our property AND on our greenhouses.

the feds will laugh at your "legal paperwork"..lol...to them your a felon with a gun....
Understood. In the feds eyes we're all felons though. This isn't a huge grow. We're each allowed 12 and neither greenhouse is maxed out. Like I said, these are small town hicks doing the ripping. I just posted this for other ideas as to how to deter these little punks. There are no intentions of shooting anybody, well maybe with some paintballs that may or may not be frozen. The gunshot was used as a message to would be thieves that this property IS snd WILL BE protected this year.

Some statutes consider a trespass criminal only if the defendant has an unlawful purpose in entering or remaining in the place where he has no right to be. The unlawful purpose may be an attempt to disrupt a government office, theft, or Arson. Statutes in some states specify that a trespass is not criminal until after a warning, either spoken or by posted signs, has been given to the trespasser. Criminal trespass is punishable by fine or imprisonment or both.

It's why I post no trespassing signs on every gate on my property.

Or are you just confirming to the thieves that they have come to the right place?

Check your local laws on posting of land. All states differ. (My state is every 50 ft, all the way around your border)

This is the foundation of your security..!!

2nd ring of defense, cameras and audio recordings. Makes the first four levels defendable in the Court of law.

The 5th level, well that's between you and your maker.

Just went on FB to check a link that I shared yesterday of 2 guys that broke into a legal grow. Cameras caught them in the act and the video was posted and shared throughout the community of Maine on FaceBook.

Long story short, the thieves turned themselves in and confessed cause they knew they didn't stand a chance. They even made the evening news. (I will not post links of the video, for obvious reasons)

Level 2 defence is all that's necessary in most cases.

Stay safe everyone.
