Hi all

SO maybe im not the only one having this idea but i thought itd be pretty cool to have bho infused olive oil and drizzle on salad and etc.
Would it really be more complicated than keeping oil at constant temp and mixing until dissolved? What ratio would you use?
I think id try at around 70C while mixing and making it so that 1 teaspoon would have around 0.05g (kind of like a wee dab)
Any thoughts?

To make cannabis capsules I regularly mix QWISO extract with coconut oil or avocado oil. You'll probably want to decarb the wax, from any extract method. I mix equal amounts of liquid lecithin and wax plus a gram or two of oil and heat it to 240-250°F for twenty minutes or until it stops out-gassing CO2, ie. when the bubbling stops. I would then let this cool and add the rest of the oil after. Olive oil is not as durable to heating as many other oils are, so I would only heat a minimum amount of it to preserve the flavor, which may be overwhelmed by the wax anyway. As far as dosage, 20-30 per gram of wax would be a good starting point. I would guess a tablespoon or two per salad, so that would be 50 tablespoons or 25 ounces (liquid measure) of oil per gram of wax with two tablespoons per salad.

I forgot about decarbing... for some reason thought wouldnt apply for such concentrated extracts. Cant you decarb the wax just as you would purge it with heat? If left undecarbed it simply wont be absorbed by the system but will have a taste?
Those capsules you make with coconut and avocado oils, do you mix a big batch in similar dose to what you are saying?

Yes I use that dosage for me, I might make 50-100 doses/gram for other people. People have all different tolerances, I figure it is better to make something you can take two of or more if need be rather than be OD'd on one hit. Decarbing does cause taste loss, and as much as 80% of the THC may be unavailable through eating until it is decarbed. Grow Goddess leaves her wax in an alcohol solution for 100 days in a sealed container in a dark place, and claims it naturally decarbs at ambient in that time. I haven't tried it, but it makes sense. After that time the alcohol can be removed by evaporation at ambient, and more flavor can be maintained by not heating.

City Market has Stainless Steel 2.5 oz condiment containers. I put a gram of wax in there with lecithin. The lecithin helps emulsify oily compounds and keeps them in solution, and probably is not needed for a salad oil mix. I put it in capsules to hopefully keep the mixture homogenized as only .68cc goes in a cap. Put in a few cc's of the oil you are mixing the wax with. I then put the SS container in a pyrex measuring cup with a couple oz of oil in the cup, just enough so it won't float the SS container and place a thermal probe in the oil next to the SS container. This is heated to 240-250°F. You can watch the CO2 out-gas, I stir with a toothpick. By twenty minutes the bubbling will have slowed or ceased, let it go until you can stir it and it doesn't foam up.

So could i do same process without lecithin? and just decarb the wax in a few cc of the oil im planning to mix the wax with? sort of making a strong concentrate before dilluting in more oil.
Think i could achieve desired temperature and keep it constant with a warm plate/griddle or should i look into one of those thermal probes you speak about?

I like a temperature probe so I know what the temperature is. The hotter it gets the faster the THC will degrade. Here is an old graph showing the decarb vs. temperature process.

I wouldn't trust the temperature settings on a griddle without confirming the same with a thermometer.
