Gov. wouldn't exist if everyone just agreed to things voluntarily..
Gov. exists because people won't agree to things voluntarily..
Not really. (coercive) Government exists to propagate and maintain control of some people over others.
Governments method is NOT voluntary, therefore it is contradictory to see a non voluntary institution, coercive government, which derives its authority from the barrel of a gun as a DEFENDER of voluntary actions and relations. It is impossible to use violence or the threat of it from the get go and then say, we need them to prevent violence. It is akin to throwing gasoline on a fire and expecting the flames to somehow decrease.
What many people have not considered is the idea that a central authority is not the only way that order can be maintained and disputes arbitrated. When that knowledge becomes more widespread a paradigm shift will occur.
Also, when there is a central coercive authority freedom is an impossibility, as the very nature of authority derived from coercion makes that illogical and impossible.
I think people fail to see the disconnect between the means of a coercive government and the means of an individual being coercive.
Most people create a giant blind spot and think that somehow coercive government is exempt from logic that is consistent when it is applied to any other entity or being.
