Organic hempyy

So ive been working on building my own organic soil mix. Tired of bottles and bugs. I wanna grow my plants in quality soil amended with quality fertilizer AND organic pesticides (neem, crap meal). Water only with a few teas as needed!

My current grow tripped at the finish line. A few weeks from harvest my plants began to rot. Game over. So im looking ahead. This led me to hempy buckets. People growing in pure perlite and such. No rot, no bugs, and amazing growth from passive hydro style. Win win win! But i wanna maintain an organic grow.

So.. Ive been searchin the web for 2 days trying to find something similar to what i plan to do to no avail.. So here i am, asking my fellow RIUers for help and opinions.

Here's my idea:
Hempy style grow with organic soil.
75% perlite. 25% ewc amended with a variety of fertilizers. Bottom 1-2" pure perlite for the rez.
I don mind having to water alot due to perlite, but i want the fertilizer to be the main source of food. Is this doable?!
Organic, hempy bucket grow?
Also, is it okay to only use ewc? Is peat moss or vermi necessary in the base soil or will perlite/ewc alone be fine? (Amended with various meals obviously) i figure the ewc should be fine for wickin up a lil water to keep the area above the rez moister for microbes to thrive in.

Also i plan to let soil/perlite cook for a few weeks. Ill wet the mixture with BMO super plant tonic to give them beasties a jump start

Well ima go for it soon. I got a few clones vegging in some roots organic soil. Im mainly doing this cause im poor, to many bills, not enugh cash. Im down to my last bag of soil and wanted to reeeallly stretch it. So im gonna mix 4cuft of perlite with my last cuft of roots organic. Cant afford to buy new pots so instead ill stick with my smart pots and water until there dish is about an inch full of water and let them soak that up.
Ill be using RO water, cal/mag (amending with lime so cal/mag as needed), a little earthjuice micros and BMO/Roots organic nutes sadly. I was really hoping to buy some fresh amendments but as i said, times are reeal hard and sometimes yu jus gotta make do with what chu got left. Ill keep this up to date as my grow goes fo any who are curious

You tripping man. Perlite woth 2 liters or milk jugs or coffee containers or whatever Hempy's with Maxibloom or OC+ that costs like $7 at lowes. Or just do it with all perlite in the smart pots KISS

Maybe just concentrate on fixing what went wrong
rather than trying to come up with an alternative grow method,

rather than trying to come up with an alternative grow method,
could yield more appropriable results ...just saying​

I noe what went wrong. At its core it was because i hadnt properly sterilized my soil from the start. Had i did that, i wud have had smooth sailing.
Fighting bugs led me to learn how to make my own soil and things to amend with that work like organic pesticides (neem/crab meal).
It also taught me how to rot my roots our from under my 8wk flowering plants >.>
Which led me to hempy buckets. So why not try to combine them. I feel like its finna work out nicely.
I actually just finished transplanting my rooted clones into 1 gal pots with a 1:3 soil/perlite mix. I'll get some pics up in the morn when the lights come bak on.
My plan will be to use their dishes as the "rez". Once in the 3 gal smart pots its perfect. I bottom feed my flowering plants and they love it. Thou i water teas from the top cause i dont know if the minerals/microbes get filter by the pot...?
Either way it makes watering easier. The dishes hold exactly 1000mls and plants suck up a lil over 2000mls every 4-5 days.

Yeah man, that's actually a SIP or wick system. Check out Noobwanabee's ghetto SIP system over on Grasscity, just make sure your strain likes it. My current strain hated it, overwatered looking after 2 days, but maybe it was because the I had just transplanted and the roots hadn't grown enough? Idk

Yeah if you don't wait till they each the bottom then they just sit there and look overwatered. Takes a couple days to get used to it. Explosive growth of veg though which is nice

Alright its been a week now since the transplant. Here are my babies now:
As of 12/28


#1: Grew from 5.5" to 8"
Tallest as of now. Long thin fingers. Its mom was purple.


#7: Grew from 3" to 4.5"
Short and grew the least. Not sure why but its growing 1-3 bladed leaves.


#3: Grew from 4.5" to 6.5".
Also growing wierd leaves.


#6: Grew from 5" to 7".
Wwwierd leaves too >.>


#9: Grew from 5" to 7.5"
Nice and healthy with normal leaves. Branching faster then others.


Not sure what's up with the weird shaped and number leaves. Plants seem to be real green and healthy. Hoping they'll jus grow out of it...
Hmm, though i notice the same kind of wierd growth on my flowering plants too. Big long 2 of 3 fingered leaves. Is this typical of sativas? Or a sign of some sort of problem?

Yo.
This week I've seen alot of good strong growth, ill be repotting some of these later. Feeling lazy thou so...
Here's the vegging:


And my clones:



#1 8" => 12.5"
#3 6.5" => 10"
#6 7" => 11"
#7 4.5" => 8"
#9 7.5" => 12"

They are all branching heavily. Once i transplant them into there final 3g smart pot, ill be putting the veritcal screen on them and begin training them until 2-3ft. My plan is simple, all leaf on oneside, all branches on the other. Then jus let them continue to grow up toward the light

iight since i was to lazy and felt it unnecessary to take pics of my vegging plants more indepth, ill post up some of my budz i got flowering later tonight. Gotta wait for those hps's to turn off so only the cmh shines thru

Looking good! You know if you put perlite in those containers in the bottom it will not only hold the water and keep it moist but provide a wicking action. You don't want the bottom of the smart pots to be sitting in the water itself though

I like your initial idea but it wont work... your doing good now but if you wanna grow organic you have to either use very large containers with a fair amount of amendments that has cooked/composted around 30 days.... You can.... grow organically in smallish pots... 3 gallon being smallish... If you wanna grow in small pots you either need to grow using coco.... hence non organic bottle fed bullshit... but not bad if thats what you have... it works and its easy... also coco can be used with perlite in an mixture in the hempy style grow you wish to do... Google "2 liter soda bottle hempy grow"... If you wanna do hempy's follow that protocol... But if you wanna grow organically.... And are currently broke-ish... Go to home depot or wherever you can get "espoma" products and get their "garden-tone" or "tomato tone"... shit is like $15 a bag... Get that... A bag of their (espoma) garden lime.... And as much worm castings/perlite as you can afford (worm castings should be added with the same amount of perlite to assure proper drainage) and mix the lime in at a 1/4 cup per 5 gallon bucket of soil/castings and perlite... and add the same for the garden or tomato tone products (1/4 cup per 5 gallon bucket)... Wet it a little bit and let it sit for a month as you would any soil and then use it... That would be a fairly good base that you could use to throw a tea on here and there...

Also mycos are mandatory in organic growing for yield... I use a granular at all transplants and a soluable myco product at 21 days into flower...

Any kind of product aside from worm castings needs to be cooked in the soil before the plant can use it... BUT.... you can build containers in a way so by the time the roots get to it; its usable... But thats a bit much for this...

Also... your bug problem is not going to go away with organics... its going to get worse... You need to figure out what kind of bugs... most likely thrips or fungus gnats... if its spider mites; scrap your shit now or get some lady bugs asap... For preventive and permanent protection without any kind of pesticides... buy some nemetodes... Best $ you can spend in an organic garden...

You dont seem to be doing bad otherwise... You are going to run into issues if you dont get them some more food before flower though.... They dont use too much now but those first 2-4 weeks of 12/12 is where the most nutrition is going to be required in the plants entire life cycle so be ready for it...

Those are not hempy pots, you have drain holes in the bottom of your pots ?. Organics defeat the excellerated growth purpose in hempys..

so you just throw away soil?! Why not recycle it? You would save lots of money.

Haha ladybugs fucking love my house! Haha just husbanded like seven into my grow room to get to work.but you say you can't grow in smaller containers organically... Why not? I do not agree with this at all...

Looking good! You know if you put perlite in those containers in the bottom it will not only hold the water and keep it moist but provide a wicking action. You don't want the bottom of the smart pots to be sitting in the water itself though

I considered perlite in the bottom 1" or so of the pots, but i think ill jus put the perlite in the trays and do a SIP style. I tried just leaving them sitting in water. It worked, but the water is completely exposed and will definitely lead to issues.

i got plenty of "organic" bottled nutes as a back up. But im thinking this strain is easy going because i got flowering plants in 3g pots and they've only hungered for magnisuem (i use ro water). Other than that they green is fuckk. In fact, some of them are burning from nutes. Havent fed then once in 6 weeks now.
